Hiring may be a "crapshoot" for you and in that case, yes, testimonials or references probably wouldn't work. Some hiring managers take a more analytical, and less cynical, approach. That approach also leads to lawsuits based on bias so trend carefully if you aren't using objective data to make a hiring decision.

Way classier than Jeter ever could have handled things. One game advance notice, subbed out, thanks the fans, and is out. Did NOT take him 162 chances to say goodbye. God forbid he take his time to say good-bye to every country he played against!

It was a good interview, but it doesn't beat Charlie Sanders

I hate to be navel-gazey, but this is exactly how it worked for me. I was a Lifehacker commenter for years and I submitted a guest post or two in the hopes of getting hired on, but I never did. I started writing at a fan-made site called the Noisecast (run by Gizmodo readers) and used that to get a job at RootzWiki.

if you've never waited a table in your life, then you don't know wtf you're talking about. if you can't afford to tip, or if you refuse to tip, then you don't go to a sit down restaurant... PERIOD!

I actually had an on-site segment with Josina earlier this month and asked her about the showering habits of the Countdown guys:

What is this person studying and why aren't there any textbooks in his book bag?

Incomplete without the huge stash of credit cards and/or checks to pay back all of the student loans.

I like how our public narrative is "obamacare is forcing companies to not have full time staff" rather than "companies are so fucking amoral and greedy, they'd rather not function than treat their employees well."

seriously, what I'd like to know is how to get a small enough spike in energy & motivation levels to provide focus on self-improvement in the evening, but not too much energy & motivation that leaves you wired at 1am when you need to be up at 6am the next day.

Ah, ad hominem, the classic "I have no counter to your argument, so I'll try to find the lowest-hanging fruit I can swing at" tactic. Trust me, I'm not coming off as the stupid one here. And seeing how your other posts are similar "just troll users by calling them stupid" nonsense, I'm not even going to bother being

Batters should also be forced to keep one foot in the box in between pitches; when the pitcher is ready to go, the batter better be as well. I hate the endless stepping out that permeates every Sawks/Yanks game.

Ever see the 30 for 30 "Into the Wind"? Spoiler alert, the one-legged cancer survivor kid trying to run across Canada to raise cancer awareness ultimately fails to complete the run, gets cancer again, and dies. It was brutal, and incredible, and it made me want to go run somewhere.

Does it have to be the running community that doesn't want the real, if bleak, story?

You are to investigate when you have probable cause. You are not to treat all citizens as if they were guilty and lying from the get-go. You are not an investigator all the time. Going to extremes to try and establish probable cause for investigation is not ethical, either. Either you have probable cause to

The problem with all this advice is that cops are basically liars and when your case goes before a judge, they will lie and make themselves look good and the judge will believe the cop.
