The show really should got to an every-other week format. Even on a regular basis, they’re episodes are better after a week off. Just open the season earlier in August, end on Memorial Day. Go ahead and do an episode per season that’s solely clips and cut-for time sketches - who cares about that at this point?

I just really want to know if they shipped Sudekis his track suit, of if it actually is his own.

I thought this “live” episode was so much better than the first. They obviously figured out how to make it work but I did think Weekend Update was not as good.

This one felt like they figured out how to make this work well. It’s SNL so I’m never gonna love all the sketches, but overall I enjoyed it and I thought Miley Cyrus was great. It’s fun to see how everyone adapted to the DIY approach to filming their own bits. Not to discredit all the people that edited this all

Two small side-comments. First, I absolutely loved the Miley Cyrus performance from home.

That was such a delightful episode that really leaned on crazy weirdness we are living in. I still can’t believe that they managed to not only make What’s Up With That sketch without the studio, but that it turned out o be as magical as that. Like I can’t praise the effort in this episode enough.

When they broke for a commercial and started another one of those somber pandemic TV ads, I turned my head and paid attention to my damned phone, then saw in the corner of my eye at the last frame it was the Pornhub fake ad. Successfully trolled.

You know what, NO. One of the good things of this pandemic has been to burn dress code to the ashes, and I hope it stays that way. F**k blazers and f**k that kind of normalcy.

I’ve actually seen them before.  In fact, a long time ago, and I’m talking like 15 years ago or longer, for a while NBC was airing 1970s vintage episodes at 2 am.  They’re like the show is now.  Some really funny stuff, some not-so-funny stuff.

Eh, it’s kind of comforting to have Dennis Perkins out here giving out B- in these trying times.

Redd was in one sketch— it was Bowen Yang who was notably absent along with Melissa and Cecily.

That’s the healthiest Pete Davidson has looked in some time. Quarantine with Mom seems to agree with him.

Alec Baldwin’s Trump dutifully called in mid-Update for some of his/their wonted mushy satire...

Modern Family was exactly what it needed to be in order to further the normalization of homosexual relationships. It absolutely shouldn’t have been more “political,” because once you get political, you turn off the majority of people that could potentially be reached. If you shove a message in the face of someone with

Ted Mosby’s kids.

“Modern Family helped to usher in shows that simply surpassed its own stab at diversity and progressive values.”

...are you okay?

Yeah it’s interesting that Dennis ‘Downer’ Perkins isn’t a fan.

Now playing

Random trivia moments - the movie quotes sketch was originally in the dress rehearsals for David Harbour and Adam Driver. The talk show sketch was originally in the dress rehearsal for John Mulaney. Bowen’s Update character was also originally in that dress. The talk show sketch was based on this Patti Labelle

For me, the show has always been about a single question, which is when is it too late? Too late for salvation, too late to fix your mistakes, too late to be the person you want.
