Q&A monologues have been pretty infrequent. Stating “it’s another one of these monologues” seems like the reviewer has decided SNL does a lot of Q&A monologues and is using confirmation bias on the rare occurrences where Q&A monologues come up. Are you checking to see if the things you’re saying are 1) correct or 2) ju

I see what you’re saying, but as you said, there was an intentional metaphor built into the movie. It’s not desperate to want to make sense of a creator’s intention.

That helps. Thank you!

I was ready to just enjoy the movie until the red lady said they were “America”. Just that one word forced me to take a step back and acknowledge that there was a metaphor built into the story. However deep it may be, Jordan Peele wanted it to be deep.

They spent a lot of time fleshing out these 3 male characters so the fact they can have very few conversations without mentioning Rebecca is frustrating. They are more interesting than that. Perhaps it’s a reverse Bechdel.

They wanted 4 seasons but likely wanted more episodes (moved from 18 episodes to 13). That might be where the rushing came from.

Hello. I have looked up non-diagetic twice this week and just can’t get a handle on the term. Could you explain it to me like I’m an idiot, ideally with an example or two. Much appreciated.

I loved the r kelly skit! Kenan’s impression is weak but his delivery and essence is strong. In contrast, Jay had great impressions but never left me laughing too hard. I’d like someone to be able to do both but if I had to pick, I choose Kenan.

Those lines floored me! And I completely lost my mind when r kelly said live from New York to the plant camera. But I still ended the episode saying it was pretty bad. Isn’t that funny? I can pause the show from laughing so hard and then complain it wasn’t good enough. Maybe expectations are too high.

I agree to an extent. That je ne sais quoi is perfect for stand-up. When those two talk, I want to listen. But they can be problematic in ensemble improv settings. Idris Elba has awkward comic timing (imo) and while Kenan and Mikey had the skill to work around him, Leslie didn’t. During the magician’s sketch, I felt

Thank you! My bf and I quit smoking and drinking and now we put that money in a a bank account and use half for expenses and half for experiences. I did enjoy the show but Mulaney stand-up beats Ansari stand-up for me hands down.

I think the last game show I liked this much was Tina Fey’s Meet Your Second Wife.

I’ve seen Mulaney live twice and I’m seeing Ansari tomorrow (same theater to control for ambience) so I’ll solve this for all of us in approximately 24 hours.

When he came to Chicago (his hometown) for Comeback Kid he did 2 shows at the 3,600 capacity Chicago Theater. For Kid Gorgeous, he did 8 shows at the same theater. Seems to be growing substantially in popularity.

Yes! I had to pause, die, rewind, watch it again, and then redie before I could continue!

Where did you read that? I love inside SNL articles

She did! They appear to be softening her up in the move to NBC. I always appreciate when there is a line explaining it like “now that I’m out these wet things come out of my eyes sometimes” or something like that so I don’t assume it’s awkward/sloppy writing.

My opinion is always in such opposition to the reviewers that I sort of want to meet him. Like is he me through the looking glass?

I think it’s a normalizing song for someone like me. I was raised to believe therapists and anti-depressants were crutches and I was weak for not handling my emotions myself. I wish I had gotten help earlier because I was pathologically struggling. I try to think of younger me watching this show and I think it would

Or like, at least think about it for longer than 4 minutes.
