I wouldn’t worry about it. As a later model, and especially a sedan, it’s more than likely fine.
yeah, they’re nothing like BMW V8s of the era. The M54 itself is extremely reliable. Some of the accessories, a little less so. But the engine itself doesn’t pose any hidden worries.
I had upgraded mine at around 120k miles, but the stock one was still fine at that point.
This is what I sold my non-zhp ‘01 330i with six speed for about a decade ago, although I had closer to 200k on the clock at the time. Probably a good price. Still miss that car sometimes.
I can’t think of anything on this car that would qualify as a “live grenade”, short of it was run without oil for a decade. The thermostat and water pump are fragile, but easily replaced. Short of that, these cars don’t really have any catastrophic issues lurking.
I owe the pinched nerve in my neck to 1000 miles of driving a 26' uhaul with trailer back in February.

had the opposite problem with the wheels. When one breaks, those hammer-on end caps are damn near impossible to remove.

I mean, if he joined at 20, that would only put him at 52, which is significantly younger than the retirement age, and really not that old when looking at people who are senior leaders in their respective fields.
I’ve got a 2016 Cayenne S right now, I’d like to add a convertible back to the garage, another Miata (something newer than the 2003 I just sold) or a Boxster would work well.
