We had a Jetta come in to the shop. All sorts of electrical glitches and feedback. Turns out the owner had ‘upgraded’ to all LED. As soon as we replaced all the bulbs back to OEM, problems went away.

Correct. The $34K figure always quoted is the mean which is heavily weighted by expensive cars that push up the average. The median price is significantly lower.

I would avoid the averages as they can be misleading. The rich can buy really overpriced cars that can goose those statistics. Just lump all car sales together and you find that average price declines dramatically to around ~$25k
