He is singlehandedly accelerating all of us into the next recession with these tariffs. It’s hard enough to afford everything now, but now people are going realize when it’s too late that because trump has a vendetta, ALL of us will suffer for it.
I would like to think most of the tariff talk is just sabre rattling, but I do think Trump would go through with it in order to not “look weak”. The bad thing is regardless of what negative effects it may have with possible lost jobs or higher cost of goods, his constituents will stick with him and continue to support…
I’m guessing he’ll find both given his credentials.
Luckily, they were able to save it.
Raw material was never the issue at the Gigafactory. It was the 2170 cells chemistry which they fixed. Lithium is abundant, right now. Other raw materials (cobalt/aluminum/etc) shouldn’t be an issue either.
“It’s surprisingly not all doom and gloom”
Why would it be? GM announced plans for repurposing used Volt battery packs YEARS ago.
And when they’re done with those uses, the materials are valuable - the idea they just get thrown away instead of being recycled is a little absurd.
I’ll wait out the tariffs. I was going to get a new vehicle but it’s not necessary so the wait is on.
Neutral: Pffft. This is Jalopnik. Everyone knows that we only buy cars that are at least 10 years old or we are at least the 6th owner of. /s
I can see three things Hyundai would want from FCA:
When I hear a politician, I always assume they said, “know new taxes”
I’ll even go as far to say that most people working in dealerships are good people that just want to make a fair deal and pay their bills. There are still plenty of bad apples out there, but not nearly as much as there used to be.
Nah, forthcoming cuts in Social Security and Medicare will pay for those. Still loving all this winning.
Reverse: Smart Cars, Welcome
Autonation’s CEO Mike Jackson had a pretty good interview about the tariffs and what they’ll do to the car industry. I know people hate on dealers but they employ a lot of people.
Ooops
I believe it’s going toward Pruitt’s security detail, which will likely include a fleet of bulletproof Yukons. The EPA doesn’t go to war in a Ford Fiesta either.
Isn’t the government the only one that wins with a trade war? They end up making more money off these tariffs right?
