There *could* be a dealership that tries to sell their allotment for 10x the MSRP :)

Yep, my days of shifting the decimal point effortlessly from using a slide rule are apparently over.

That’s interesting. Lithium reacts with water, creating lithium hydroxide and hydrogen. I guess it’s better to stop the fire and any toxic smoke caused by the various plastics and such rather than the (presumably) smaller amounts of lithium hydroxide and hydrogen.

Coworker had a fire in the attic. Some firewood stacked by the house caught fire after they dumped some charcoal from a grill near the firewood and the grass between them burned. The firewood burned the eves, so the fire ended up in the attic. They were asleep and were awoken by some burning object falling, not the

So all of those Youtube videos showing gauges attached to fuel lines with pressure after the engine is shut off are fake? And all of the instructions on how to remove power to your fuel pump and crank your engine so you can relieve pressure in the fuel line before changing your fuel filter can be ignored?

I wonder if fire trucks are going to start carrying class D fire extinguishers?

If the EV has lithium cells, you might want to rethink that water thing. That’s right up there with using water to put out a grease fire, though not for the same reasons.

There have been a number of defects that have caused fires in gas vehicles while parked. The one I remember the most is the F150/Explorer? issue with the cruse control problem. Yeah, it totally sucks when the government makes you do things in a safe manner.

Modern projector headlights have a sharp cutoff; a horizontal line with virtually no light above the line. The problem is that the aim of the beam only needs to be off (angled up) by a little bit for that cutoff line to be above the windshield of oncoming cars.

But I glanced at the headline before jumping in to comment!

With eco-friendly wiring insulation (soy based), and the prevalence of rats, I don’t think we want the engine bay to smell like anything eatable.

Aluminum will corrode though. Desert storage minimizes the chances of that from happening.

Are the remaining drinks/snacks removed between flights?
