It just felt ... very flat to me. Lovely and kind of empty. With the exception of the mediation scene.

Yeah, the Big Short was great. I suspect that the HFPA wanted to give Ridley Scott a trophy and that’s why they put The Martian in that category. I appreciate that Scott called them out on it in his speech.
Mara wasn’t the problem, and neither was Blanchett. They were both compelling individually, but really didn’t have good chemistry. It’s pristine and very cold. Some of that, of course, is necessary given the era and the sexual mores of the time, but it lacked warmth where it needed it and ended up feeling flat and…
I wasn’t very impressed by Carol. By all accounts Room is good though?
Is it just me or is The Revenant the only movie out that feels like it has any award season momentum behind it? Carol seems to have some, but I saw it earlier this week and am not surprised it got shut out...

Yeah any time I’ve used it I say “Lovah” like in the sketch. Bc it’s kind of silly and ridiculous. Or like Hannibal Lecter (“They were lovers, you see.”)
I will cosign and add that I also hate when people refer to two people who are seeing each other and presumably fucking as “lovers.” When people say “made love” and “lovers” this is how it sounds every time:
no idea who this guy is but he kinda looks like O.B. from The Hateful Eight.
I think Fukunaga/Harrelson/McCounghghghgghgey had a lot to do with the success of season 1, as many others have noted, but this makes sense too. I mean, Pizzolatto’s writing was clunky in some parts of 1, but he did center the themes and mythology in a way that made the mystery feel real, so he deserves some credit…
He was good, but I think the idea of him in the movie was funnier than the execution. I’m assuming they didn’t expect him to be a capable actor or having good comedic timing (which it turned out he did), so they underwrote him.
I enjoyed it overall, but it was overhyped and like everything Judd Apatow directs, about 20-30 minutes too long. His movies would have more momentum if he could bring himself to edit out a handful of mediocre jokes. That said, I thought the jokes mostly landed, even though there was nothing really memorable. But Amy…
She is talented. At least talented enough to almost make 50 Shades of Grey work, which is no small feat. No one could make that dialogue sound natural, but she got as close as possible, and was much more interesting to watch than I expected.
Agreed. To take the dialogue in that movie and make it sound natural, I have to assume, requires substantial talent. I hope she is able to turn it into a launching pad. She has chops.
How awesome would it be if that video linked in the tweet was the aforementioned video of him playing with his own butthole?
I haven’t but I guess I’ll have to check it out now.
I totally agree on the analysis of Hilary. I think as far as what the Republicans are saying, using a word like abuse to describe misconduct implies the non-consensual allegations. I get sense that the candidates themselves won’t refer to the rape allegation specifically (‘cause then they’re setting a precedent for…
To be honest, I think the Republicans are raising a much trickier issue here. They’re not just referring to infidelity, but at lest one rape claim. They believe Hilary, who now takes the position that rape victims should be believed*, engaged in campaigns to discredit women who accused her husband of misconduct,…
Well, if we believe accusers*, then Bill Clinton is also a rapist, so there’s a chance Trump and Bill deserve each other**.
