If you spend enough time in social spaces, you probably have random clan invites. Just accept one. I picked the one with the prettiest banner. It’s nothing but free engrams. I play solo and have never interacted with, or even seen another member of my clan. But I still get those free, full power engrams.

Absolutely NOT strikes. Not to level up/increase light. Do public events and missions/adventures. Strikes are fun and worth doing, but the rewards to time spent ratio just isn’t there right now. Your only way forward is to churn through gear for awhile. Doing all the adventures on your map will get you tons of it.
