I've experienced lake effect snow first hand. What I do is I gently ease off the throttle and drop my speed down to 50-60km/h. However I've often seen people who carry on at much higher speeds. They act like the falling snow doesn't exist.

A bigger issue is that people, regardless of how horrific weather conditions are, almost will never pull over. Now matter how terrible it is.

I find there's a high degree of overlap between people who think the flu shot is bullshit and people who have never gotten the flu before. Because once you've gone through that 2 weeks of hell, you will be begging for that shot like a heroin addict in withdrawal.
