If you're not in the business of design, photo editing, or video production, there are a bunch of low-end monitors you can get for less than $100.

Happy Friday everyone! I just received a big order from a t-shirt wholesaler and it came with a massive (530-page) catalog. I do all my orders online and have no use for a paper catalog, but I don't want to put 2-3 kilos of paper to waste. Can anyone think of an alternate use for this thing?

It might be worthwhile to look at Android PMPs as well. That way you won't be paying for features you aren't going to use. A new Archos 43 is cheaper than most used Nexus Ones.

On most of the laptops I've had, Ubuntu (especially in its more recent iterations) has worked right out of the box with the built-in hotkey. Now it even displays a desktop notification when I hit the button on my eee pc.

I bet you anything the consumers are going to be the one to foot the bill. Apps that would have been $.99 will be $1.29, etc.

I would do it in a heartbeat... if my iPhone had NFC :-S

I think there are different schools of thought on this, but I never exercise on a full stomach. Might be good to grab a smoothie first, though.

Hey all,

If I was stuck in the wilderness with a pack of chips, I would be more likely to eat them and find another way to start a fire. There is usually plenty of stuff lying around.

I used to use Ubuntu exclusively, and tried fiddling around with compiz. Here are a few problems I ran into:

Yeah, I heard about that. It's unfortunate that Microsoft's creativity gets stifled because the courts think people don't know how to install a different browser on their computers. Maybe if Microsoft released an app store with Win8 with direct access to alternative software within the OS, they could get away with

OK, we've probably all seen the video of one of MS's devs booting up a Win8 machine in no time at all, but I really hope MS improves the structure of its startup so that programs (especially taskbar apps... ugh) don't slow it down over time. Running Win7 on my netbook is what made me want to move to OSX. I tried

Why would bundling Zune with Win8 cause MS to get sued? Apple bundles iTunes with OSX.

It would be *awesome* to see this integrated into the kindle! (You listening, Amazon?)

That link is dead. This one works.

The concept is really cool, but $200 is more than I paid for my bicycle. No thanks.

DaisyDisk is pretty, but I have a hard time justifying paying for software, particularly something I don't use particularly often like a disk usage analyzer. I stand by my choice of GrandPerspective as the best one for Mac; it's interface is simple (similar to WinDirStat) and it's *free*.

VOTE: GrandPerspective

I think you mean four-finger swipe gesture?

Here's something my mother always told me:
