I just use a hot corner that triggers the screen saver.

I had an Acer once. The LCD broke a couple weeks after the warranty was up. Never again.
I had the same issue with my old EeePC. When I first got it, Ubuntu's kernel did not fully support the motherboard, so the fan would not kick in until the thing was practically on fire. At the time, there were a bunch of complicated kernel-modifications available on the forums, but the problem went away after a few…
You can. (assuming you own or have a nice landlord) :-)
I used to use KTorrent . It doesn't look as polished, but at the time it seemed to perform better on my crappy DSL connection. Now I have converted to Transmission as well.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU...
My home folder is encrypted and my laptop locks up after 5 mins idle time. I am in the habit of hitting ctrl+alt+L when I leave it. Guests use a guest session. That's all I need. Even if someone cracked it, all they would find is my movie collection and a few homework assignments. Secret stuff goes on a USB drive.
Congrats! The coolest thing I've learned about Mac OSX is the massive power of the option (aka: alt) key. Seriously. You can access otherwise hidden menu buttons when you hold it down. Check out the Wikipedia article:
You can also tap and hold the letters themselves to access accents, umlauts, and the like.
Sounds awesome, but can it circumvent DVD region codes like VLC can?
This is probably a dumb question, but what is the actual advantage of using a credit card over debit? If I'm not mistaken, debit comes right out of your checking account and credit is billed to you at the end of the month (and accumulates with interest if you don't pay it off). So other than needing to spend money…

This barely worked for me, but I'm running Beatmod Gingerbread on my G1. Maybe some of those new super-powered phones with gargantuan screens accommodate this feature better.
This looks great! I'll surely use it when I move in a couple months.
@Jester6641 ...Famous last words.
The netbook version looks like unity, but it is not. I just upgraded to the 11.04 beta (the one with the full version of unity) of ubuntu from 10.10 netbook and it is much nicer. The interface is much more polished, much quicker to use (thanks largely to its universal search function), and more intuitive (all system…
Have you tried changing the channel of your wifi router?
Naphtha also works wonders for stuck mechanisms in old clocks, cameras, etc. and it doesn't leave residue like wd-40.
Hey all! I've been living in Europe for quite a while now, and I have a pretty sweet cell phone plan (12 euros a month for 300mb data, pay-as-you-go for voice and sms). I'm moving back to the US this summer and from what I've seen, American cell service is ridiculously expensive. Virgin and Boost look like viable…
