“I don’t care how many grandparents die, I miss bowling night!”
“I don’t care how many grandparents die, I miss bowling night!”
I suppose that attitude is one step removed from the “It’s just a flu” idiocy that was pushed by Faux News and NewsCrack. That misinformation and their push against required masking was the major reason that the death toll went from a projected 50,000 - 100,000 to the 540,000 we have now.
Joe Manchin is not a fucking Dem and the Democratic party needs to have some fucking standards as to what constitutes being an actual Dem.
“But something tells me that Manchin’s constituents, while probably benefiting greatly, don’t want “government handouts”.”
yo, i hated manchin. but not nearly as much as i do sinema now that i found out that not only is she a lgbt republican benefitting from progressive values, but that she also tapped mitch mcconnell on her back and said “WATCH THIS” and then did her fucking cunty thumbs down that he immediately ignored.
There’s no need to defend the bill to me. I get the point and agree that technically something’s better than absolutely nothing. I’m just sick and tired of being told that, especially in a crisis. And I’m even more tired of people defending it. Demand better.
I’m not as worried about the cut-off going to $80K/$160K, as people making $100K are not as hurting as those below. The child credit will benefit them as well (if I’m reading it correctly). The unemployment benefits going down $100 a week sucks, and in any sane world would be a political killer. But something tells me…
Yup, eat a shit sandwich and technically you won’t be starving anymore.
I hope everyone remembers who had their back and who didn’t in two years but they’ll probably find a way to blame the wrong people as they always do....
What is with horrible people doubling down on horrible? Not only that, but shooting themselves in both feet professionally making such grotesque and easily disproved assertions?
The key words here are “law and economics.” If you’re familiar with the scholarship in that field, this is not really surprising.
People need to get over this idea that going to or teaching at a place like Harvard means you’re a great all around person. I’ve known several people that went there, and their common personality trait was that they were extremely self-absorbed. This worked in their favor in that they were able to single-mindedly…
I was originally going to ask what Ramseyer’s motivation was, seeing as he (theoretically) should have no stake in upholding the Japanese side of the story. Then I looked up his bio (https://hls.harvard.edu/faculty/directory/10697/Ramseyer):
It’s kind of ridiculous that the paper made it through peer review, if there’s really no evidence at all for its key assertions.
To clarify, I'm not saying Manchin made the right choice or the best choice. Only that there are reasons behind the choice to not support the bill outright, and they most likely come from a re-election perspective
The point I’m making is it doesn’t matter who supports this bill now. You’re hanging the majority of your points on a poll that, in four years, nobody is going to care about. No Republican is going to lose their seat over not voting this. Ted Cruz is going to get re-elected and he abandoned his constituents to go to…
The results of a poll and politics are not always the same thing. The answer to your questions is ‘yes’. Will those people vote for him? Probably not, but he just made it more likely that they would. Conservatives are trained to respond to the dog whistle of ‘fighting the Pelosi/Schumer/liberal/progressive agenda’,…
The Republicans hate that the aid went out at all, but all of the talking points write themselves. They got Ossoff and Warnock elected on that promise yet Joe Manchin just gets to burn it all to the ground. Democrats in disarray!
There are two really great things about this: First, that Americans will get less money ($1,200) under a Democratic president and full Democratic control of Congress than they got under Trump and a Republican senate ($1,800), and second, thanks to Biden caving to Manchin to limit eligibility for the stimulus, around…
(generous to round $3,200 up to $4,000)
