First, I think we have to establish that Tom Ricketts could identify whether something is racist or not. He seems like the type of guy who thinks calling black people “articulate” and “clean” is a complement.

This is what I do and it’s a great idea. My hobby is teaching. I used to do it professionally, but quit because I got burned out, so now I pick up a class or two when I want to (I teach LSAT test prep, now) and make a couple extra bucks and then stop before it’s too muvh of a grind.
I lift first because I hate lifting and if I do cardio first I’m more likely to skip lifting. But if I lift first then I get the sweet relaxing joy of cardio as a reward.
It’s a negotiation strategy, not a litigation strategy. It’s entirely possible that your employer might be willing to take the risk of you suing and refuse to increase your severance as a result of the strategy, because they see the risk as low. It’s also entirely possible that they think an explicit waiver in hand it…
You don’t threaten to sue. You offer to waive potential claims in exchange for a financial payment. The waiver of claims is going to be in the document you get anyway, if your employer has any clue what they are doing, so all you’re doing is pointing out that additional areas of risk for them can be eliminated for…
One thing to be careful of with regard to copies of your work — depending on the policies at your workplace and your role, your work might not belong to you, and taking copies of it can be reason for termination. You might think that’s not a big deal if you’re already being laid off, but depending on how rigid your…
That’s correct, but only at some stands.
Low on the list, maybe, but still on the list.
Not necessarily. The smaller tables might be reserved, or they might be in a different server’s section, and if they are moved you’re talking about a transition in service which can result in a poorer experience all around.
I do read straight white men in nonfiction, depending on the subject -- Evicted by Matthew Desmond was really good -- but other than that, who has the time!?
I did this same reading experiment and the same thing happened to me! I have so much stuff on my to-be-read list that it’s unlikely I’ll ever get back to the straight white dudes.
We solved this with separate checks for the cheapstakes and told them that was why they had to have separate checks. It didn’t solve the problem, and we still probably overtipped the server enough to make up for it, but at least we weren’t getting rooked when we split the bill and they gave us just enough money to…
Unlike your anecdotal evidence?
The servers in the nicer places typically are required to tip out the rest of the table staff — bussers, runners, etc.
I use it for certain things that it has but no one else has -- Hannibal, The Americans -- and some of the original stuff, but the UI is pointless. On Amazon Prime, if you don’t already know what you’re looking for, you’ll just see the same 20 things recycled into different categories.
Ooh, Ronald McDonald House is a good idea!
My best friend was killed in a car accident very much like this one in 2015. It was purely an accident -- no alcohol or drugs or phone use, just poor driving -- and the driver stopped, but it really brought home the inherent danger of cars + pedestrians in a way that you forget after a while because cars are so…
I am ADAMANT with the people who work for me that sick days are time off and they should not be working. We also allow the “work remote if you’re under the weather” so people do that periodically, but I tell them, repeatedly, if you’re going to take a sick day, use it to recover! We will make do without you.
Either split it and don’t let sick leave expire so you can save it for a real life need
