Something I say a lot is, "Find a doctor you trust, and do what s/he tells you." Got a health problem? See a doctor. Doctor didn't help? Find a better one. Keep looking until you find a doctor who can either fix your problem or explain why it can't be fixed.

I hate the whole thing where people see TV commercials for drugs and then demand that their doctors give them those meds. I thought advertising drugs directly to the public was a mistake when it started, and I still think it's dangerous.

My favorite doctors are the ones who over-prescribe opiates, rather than send those patients to pain management specialists, then cut the patients off when they get addicted, rather than direct them to treatment, so the patients become heroin addicts because heroin is so much cheaper than black-market pills, and take…

One problem with this approach is that I will remember the ad every time I see the product, which will make me never buy the product.
