Why, in this day and age, do fight promoters exist and have so much power? Why don't more fighters after a certain level of success just not sign with the Arums of the world, go independent, make the fights that the market wants, and keep more money for themselves???

Who knows? It takes a different type of guy to play there. He's a bonafide superstar and if he's willing to take just max money and play great basketball then he might consider it. If he's a guy that wants to get shoe deals, beats, etc. he won't look that direction.
