Here’s a thing: characters can be fully realized and developed *without* having to experience great traumas.

One has to be pretty dumb to not make that connection...
Then again, being that dumb would explain why they’re voting the way they’re voting to begin with.
a) you’ve never watched a single episode of Star Trek prior to DIS based on your outrage of “left-wing” politics being present
b) if you are outraged by liberal ideals, you were never a “hardcore” Star Trek fan... what were you even getting out of the previous shows??
Nah, huge difference in Jemmison/Hawking and someone like Bill Clinton. The former are pioneering scientists, so they have even more reason to be on the show than a politician who may or may not have a long career (and I do hope Abrams does, of course).
Side note: I will never understand those people who are falling all over themselves in a tizzy about how “political” or “woke” Star Trek has become. Did they ever watch any other Star Trek show?? A lot of them say TOS wasn’t like that or TNG wasn’t like that and... my mind just boggles. What were they getting out of…
I loved the cameo. And I think it’s greatly in the spirit of Trek to do something like this. And obviously, Stacey Abrams is a real life hero who continues to amaze and do it all (she’s a novelist, too!!!!).
That said, her cameo, was over-done and made no sense storywise - why on earth would she go have a private convo…
I hated, hated, hated the Abrams movies, but I have to give major kudos to Chris Pine’s performances. He was able to do an impression of *Kirk*, *not* *Shatner*. A pretty mind-f*cky thing to even really try to contemplate, let alone pull off while leading a multi-million dollar blockbuster film.
There’s a line in one of the TOS episodes that Kirk was a “walking stack of books” in his academy days and another line in some other episode how he was the fastest to make Captain... because he worked and studied his butt off.
And that’s why the show wasn’t set before he made Captain because there was no story to…
Rack Bauer?
That thing he was riding was pretty badly animated. I just about gave up on the series being any good (if they can’t get that basic thing right for the *trailer* how is the rest of it going to be of any quality?)... and then Duel of the Fates started playing and it sucked me right back in.
I think DIS is an unsalvageable mess. It’s just bad TV...
However, Species 10-C and But to Connect are solid episodes. The only two episodes I’ve enjoyed. I so desperately wish they could make the rest of the show like these 2 episodes.
The Borg Queen is going to be Seven who is using her newly found status as Borg Queen to come to terms with her trauma from what they did to her and make sure the Borg never hurt anyone else again.
Yawn.
This and DIS are not just bad Star Trek shows, they’re the worst shows available to be watched today.
100% agree, the choice of “vulgar” seemed to me like this article’s writer has never seen the show (which, is totally possible and not a bad thing in and of itself, of course) but then means they’re either passing judgement on something without watching it or, if they have watched it, incapable of picking up on the…
Eh, this sounds like it wouldn’t have been that good. But y’know, what, *anything* would be better than the absolute shit being pumped out by Abrams and Kurtzman these days.
(Lower Decks is a glaring, and surprising, exception)
Absolutely cannot wait to hate watch this!
I’m betting they’re going to have at least 5 plotholes, someone gets overly emotional, and the dialogue will continue to sound like a 6th grader wrote it!!!
I always wish they spent the first season dealing with the Maquis crew integration, a full season for “year of hell,” full season for the void episode, and even a full season of Chakotay and Janeway stranded on that planet in quarantine as the rest of the crew tried to go back home without them.
That just wasn’t what…
We sort of did get that with Battlestar Galactica. BSG is a retooled Voyager pitch Ron Moore made.
Let’s set aside how wrongly you’re using the “how can you be cancelled if you’re on a magazine cover” rhetorical device...
The franchise is dead to *me* (and many critics and fans...) - this is how opinions work. I appreciate you thinking of me as some absolute authority, but I assure you I am not. If you want to enjoy…
This.
Just watch Yesterday’s Enterprise, Tapestry, and First Contact* instead of the obvious shitshow this season will be (just like the previous one). Way, way better quality and much shorter runtime.
