I think in this particular movie, where there are a lot of things that women hear all too often ‘hey smile,’ ‘don’t be emotional,’ etc. plus adding in the whole tinge of gatekeeping that Yon-Rogg gives off, it builds to something that I suspect is cathartic for a lot of women.

Or they could have ended up with a situation like last year’s Black Panther super success, which kept it in the theater far, far longer than I think people generally forecasted for.

It annoyed me that people felt the song choice was too on-the-nose and counted that as a strike against it.
