There’s a fancy looking McDonald’s near where I worked that also doesn’t look like your typical Golden Arches.

That nitro Pepsi was SO gross!

I am genuinely so sad to hear that they went the whole “Katherine Parr was trying to hold onto power” route with Elizabeth’s time in her care. Yeah, she knew about Seymour’s behavior with Elizabeth (there’s a whole discussion to be had about this of course), but there’s nothing that seems to indicate that it was an

You just know that some people are thrilled with this story because they can trumpet the whole “See we told you that LGBTQIA+ people are groomers” angle that they think this means. Instead of what it is: an isolated case of a person engaging in a bad behavior that is just one of many other bad behaviors.

I genuinely wonder what they have on people at Warner Brothers that keeps them from just going back to the drawing board with The Flash movie. Like I get that Warner has spent the money on it, but Miller has just reached the point where they are just not worth taking any form of risk.

You know that what happened with the trial verdict had nothing to do with the veracity of the allegations, right? Plus the man is going to court again soon for an alleged assault on a crew member for a film. I doubt that he’d be welcomed back to the movies, but who really wants those...

There are 2 groups of people who engage with true crime. One is exactly as you describe and they’re terrible. Then there’s the other group that is interested in the psychology, remembering the victims, and trying to safeguard themselves as much as possible from becoming a victim themselves. This group has absolutely

God I love Paddington.

Given that that line almost certainly happened to give an out if Smith didn’t want to be involved anymore, I doubt it.

Yeah, either of the sexual assaults that happen (the one in her teen years and the one that’s more at the end of the book, trying not to give too much away for those who haven’t read it) are important and very much an important part of the story. The review makes me think that whichever one they’re talking about isn’t

I absolutely adore the novel. It’s perhaps the book that I most wish I could read for the first time again, as well as the second time (because as you’d imagine that second time is a totally different, distinct experience than that first read and every read that comes after). I have zero interest in seeing this. After

She was born into it, didn’t choose it, and leaving it would cut her off from her family and likely many of her friends. She doesn’t proselytize at all.

Proud to not be normal then.

As someone who made the mistake of watching the first season with their parents (we were watching when it had just come out/no one knew the series/none of the “but the sex...” pieces had come out yet)...count me as someone who is more than happy to know that IF I do watch an episode of this season with them that I may

There are some categories where it’s lack of nomination are genuinely perplexing, like costuming and special effects (the effect work for the Green Knight alone is stunning), even if you didn’t particularly like it.

My guess with Frances McDormand’s lack of nom at least is that she not only won last year, but that she had another win in the past few years. Does it make sense? No. Does it happen though? Yes.

I suspect its success is at least partially as a result of it being in black and white; based on a serious moment in history; and somewhat autobiographical. It seems like the Academy just gives something with those elements automatic noms.

I haven’t yet watched “The Power of the Dog” as its definitely a movie that feels like I have to be in a particular mood to watch, but I find it a bit interesting (as well as a bit frustrating) that Campion’s best chance at winning comes from a film that’s at least in part about masculinity, when her films about women

A good time to remember that the Oscars very rarely actually reward the movies that will stand the test of time, after all how can they when they completely ignore whole genres, and moments like Parasite’s win are rare.

I knew it was a real long shot, both because it’s an A24 film, which seems to be almost completely ignored, and also because any discussion of award attention seemed to fizzle out soon after the release, but I was really holding out hope for a nomination for Dev Patel in The Green Knight. Alas, nothing.
