Actually that is not true... a police officer can search your car if he or she has a suspicion. They can also hold you there and wait for another police officer to show up with a search warrant. However... generally searches are upheld even without a warrant.

I remember reading about a study in which statistics showed that running injuries only increased since the running boom in the 70's... which coincides with the steady increase in the amount of padding and thickness of so called energy providing soles.

All I can say is I haven't gotten any injuries since I loved to the Nike Free models. I've run triathlons, 10k's, and marathons. After I slowly weaned myself off of regular running shoes, running has actually become more enjoyable. Perhaps my feet and legs aren't biomechanical engineers either.

I use the Nike Free Everydays... they've been great... but I weaned myself off of sneakers with padding over time before using them. Honestly, I look at the sneaker they posted here and all I see is something that will cause injuries.
