I realize that I’m a data point of one, but as the price of new games rises, so decreases the frequency with which I buy new games.

I can’t condone the hack, but I have to admit that it’s on brand for Lain.
Thank you for your response. It’s very interesting to hear more details from someone working in industry.
I believe I understand your arguments, though the scale of the increase in cost is still throwing me (1-8 million). Some years ago, I think I saw an estimate that a day of professional motion capture might cost ~$20k / person. But the difference between that and the increase is so high that it seems like spending a…
Something of a non-response, but fair enough.
I fear that the question was genuine. I’m a hobbyist who messes around with motion capture. Not having a huge budget, all I do is “workarounds”, and I was interested to see why they weren’t used.
Some of the listed technical problems seem like they’d have easy workarounds - performing the facial mocap without actually performing the hug and then merging it with the capture of the hug, for example. Or making temporary use of motion capture solutions that don’t suffer from occlusion like IMUs for situations like…
I love McDonald’s large fries, but as I rarely eat out, I usually only get them maybe once a year.
This past week, I got my yearly supply. Total cost of $4.10. For fries. Maybe I’ll switch to one every 2 years.

As I read the article, it mentions that the Pinkertons told Mr. Cannon that they would call the Sheriff and detain “us” (him and his family) until they arrived. Here it gets a bit muddled, but it seems like the agents also implied they would search the house and force the presentation of a receipt for any Magic cards…
I find myself more than a little puzzled as to what legal authority a private security company has to detain a home owner on their own property? The Pinkertons have been around for a long time, so presumably there’s something, but to an uninformed layperson there seems a qualitative difference between detaining…
Wouldn’t it be: “Lords of the Falling”?
From the reports I’ve read, it looks like a nifty piece of tech, but given the price, it is too “premium” a product for me, especially with its niche applications. Were Sony to make it compatible with PCs, it would still be outside my price range, but I might at least consider it.
This seems like a tacit admission on MS’ part that after the 10 year guarantees they’re signing to try and get the deal across the finish line expire, they are in fact going to do all the things that people are afraid they’re going to do (Xbox exclusivity for COD, etc.)?
Do you think when its sales fail to meet expectations they’ll use their normal template, or come up with something special given how many people called it beforehand?
To ask, what are your thoughts on the Fireflies’ attempts to use Ellie to find a cure? As proposed here, their strategy seems to be to obtain a sample, culture it, a miracle occurs, distribute it. But both in the show and the game, I’ve struggled to understand why that needed to require a fatal procedure. Ellie’s…
“The Devs went on to say that they were working on innovative programming techniques to get the game running on other platforms, but that at the current rate of progress there probably wouldn’t be a breakthrough until after a contractually obligated timed exclusivity window had expired.”
or something like that.
While I agree that it’s likely a commercial decision, it seems like RE’s done it before? At least a few of the villains of Village had their aging slowed / stopped by the biohazard of the week. And in 7, a character had exactly the opposite problem. Prior to that, I think I recall that the Progenitor virus that Wesker…
You essentially blew up your own argument in your second response, so I provided a true statement with relatively weak support to see what you’d do. My bet was that you’d only dig yourself deeper, but instead you resorted to an ad hominem attack. That combined with your initial moving of the goal posts implies you…
I’m happy that you agree with me that what you were doing previously was false equivalence. As your stated viewpoint is now, per your comment, that AI is not a person, than what an AI is doing when it is being trained is not the same the same as a person learning. We have reached agreement.
