Honestly I’m conflicted about this whole situation. Porsche going to the ‘Ring is expected, and I see their ploy because they probably don’t think the Tesla will be able to complete a maximum-attack lap due to battery/brake/tire issues. What I’m surprised about is Tesla’s response, they always kind of seemed to be

How dangerous Flugplatz is you learn on like 2nd or 3rd lap of the Ring in any driving game. If this was the first time you heard about it, it’s a reflection of your lack of knowledge.

“There is a heavily modified red Model S currently at the ‘Ring”

Plaid will be available next year. About the same time Porsche starts delivering Taycans. Oh, are the Taycans “heavily modified prototypes”? No? You didn’t call them that? You called them production models? But they aren’t for sale for another 6-12 months?

Yet it work as intended. Everyone is now hailing the Model S as the fastest four door car and speculating that since it beat the Jag here it will beat it on the ‘Ring as well.

Why isn’t anyone talking about how Porsche did the same thing?

That Musk puts more stock in the in-car telemetry than having someone from the track look at that telemetry and say, “looks legit”?

What Tesla actually said:

Nurburgring Officials: Nein! Zis is impossible! Zere are rules! You did not fill out ze proper forms!

And it doesn’t have a turbo

Tesla has released the Laguna Seca lap video.

I’m not so convinced they’re a transportation company. I’d liken it to McDonalds:

The point is are the drivers employees who work for a tech company the same as janitors who work for a tech company. Or are they independent contractors the same as a janitorial service that cleans for a tech company.

From the comments it looks like Lyft and Uber are rounding people up at gun point again and forcing them to work. Almost as bad as Amazon.

Legally speaking, Uber is technically correct.

The car they will be running and a large generator to charge it were already at the track before the tweet. And the car is not the same as one you’ll find in the showroom indicating that it is the precursor for a track pack. It’s sitting lower, has a strange spoiler, and a wearing better rubber.

Aaaaaand it looks like Tesla has booked the track to themselves.

You think Tesla didn’t plan their ‘ring testing and just threw something together post-tweet?

When it crashes.

Tesla haters and fanboys really need to stop reading too far into tweets.
