Along with many others, my original choice was the WRT54GL. When I upgraded to N I went with the Netgear WNR3500L. It was built by Netgear as an "open source" router with support for DD-WRT, Tomato, and other 3rd party firmware's. [www.myopenrouter.com] is a good website with info, guides, and forums for it.

Go to the contacts list > Menu > Display Options > tap the arrow by your gmail address > leave the check mark by just the groups that you want to show in your contacts list.

I actually like it auto saving contacts. It's easy enough to just sync your "My Contacts" list instead of all of them on Android. I also don't email an absurd number of new people so it's easy enough for me to go through them every few months and save the ones I want to keep permanently and delete the rest.
