That sounds just perfect, I’ve driven that way in reverse and didn’t even know about the vista until we came upon it. Beautiful.

Added to the list, and I think you just gave me a new word to describe my favorite roads.
Definitely, both times I hit the dragon I was in a time pinch so I didn’t really get to take it in as much as I would have liked to. I want to load up my motorcycle, get a motel or cabin in the area and hit all of the roads I can. I’ll most likely be doing it alone since most of my friends either don’t share my…
I have a bunch of family around the Flagstaff area so I will definitely have to check your recommendations out the next time I venture down that way.
I drove on the salt flats earlier this year, it was so odd and you described it perfectly of feeling you are on an alien planet. I didn’t open the car up or anything like you did which sounds incredible, but it felt transcendental nonetheless.
I’ve driven a ton of roads on my list, here are some that I’ve done that I’ve seriously enjoyed and some I have on my to-do list. I live in a relatively flat part the country besides the Mississippi valley about an hour away which I’ve done a zillion times, so anything twisty and hilly is extra special to me.
Edit: Kinja’d, is that still a thing?
Definitely an oversight on my part. It was one of those little tiny trailers and it didn’t hold much so I didn’t really think much of it... until the grinding started. Now brakes are added to my pre-trip checklist as they should have been from the start.
Yeah it was a mess, once we finally got to our campsite my fiancé was hinting at just wanting to call it quits and go home. But we both agreed to stick it out and it was well worth it even with the shitshow. I kept saying to her, “It’ll be funny a few months from now, but not right now.” I honestly felt like we were…
This summer, my fiance and I were going to drive to California since we both love road tripping and scored some limited passes to Yosemite to go camping. We were pulling a small trailer with all our camping gear in it. Somewhere in Wyoming one of the trailer lights decided to abandon us so that was great. It was…
I see a new Moab expedition in your future with this. With the added challenge of starting on the other side of the country. Just fly out there, buy it and drive it straight to Moab on the way back to Michigan.
I had the brother to the Maxima, the infinity I30t and absolutely loved that car. It was quick enough and rode great. But like others have mentioned, rust ate these things alive. Mine had 230k on it and it still ran awesome but it just fell apart. I still miss it to this day.
I have a 5 speed ‘11 and agree, the tranny sucks. Apparently there is a clutch delay valve in the master cylinder that makes the clutch sloppy. I’ve read up on how to remove it and people claim it’s a night and day difference.
I have bought 2 salvaged title vehicles in my lifetime. Both have been daily drivers and I still daily one of them after Minnesota Winters ate my other one, but that car had 230k miles anyways. If you know what you are doing and what to look for, a salvage vehicle can save you a lot of money. However, don’t expect a…
I’ve driven out there twice from MN and hit it on a week day, had the whole thing to myself both times. I was hoping to see a bunch of cool cars and bikes, but after seeing stuff like this and the guy jumping the Jeep makes me kind of happy I was alone out there.
Yup, I unloaded my bike and we rode 89 to Jerome. It was getting dark so we had to head back. That road is magical. I've been through monument valley 3 times now, once in the middle of a windstorm, once when a thunderstorm was rolling in, and once in the middle of the night. Each were awesome in their own right.
Ever since I was a kid, my family has always been road trippers. We didn’t do Wisconsin Dells or Disneyworld for our family trips, we hit the road, usually to Oklahoma and Texas as we had family in both states. So I would consider myself a seasoned road warrior as I keep the trend alive now, racking up 80k miles in 4…
Agreed, I have a manual with remote start, but it has a sequence you have to do for it to work. Car has to have the E-brake pulled, in neutral, and the driver door has to close last after pulling the key out of the ignition.
You are definitely correct that it implies both parties place nice, which rarely happens. In your example, which I absolutely hate those types of ramps, I would say the person is a dick since they are preventing a party from leaving the highway because they don’t want to merge with them. Play by the rules and play…
Zipper merge says to utilize both lanes until the merge point. If people want to get over a mile ahead of time and clog it up, that’s their problem. There are tons of signs specifically explaining to use both lanes miles before the zipper merge starts.
