Can confirm. Every single dealership I dealt with in person treated me like I had no clue the last time I was shopping for a car. One in particular made me so mad. I started off nicely when they wanted to show me a full-sized SUV that was fifteen grand over my budget when I had said very clearly that I was looking at

The problem here is you’re falling into “they’re just equal opportunity offenders” trap.

I worked at a Honda dealership for a while and the number one sales person (by a wide margin) was a lady in her mid-50's. She wasn’t crazy knowledgeable about all cars but she knew Hondas inside and out. She was also straightforward and treated every customer with respect. Male and female customers loved her.

More people need to just tell dealers to fuck themselves when they try to backpedal on a deal, especially in the finance office. Like literally just get up an walk out, and when they follow you, tell them to shove the paperwork in the car and the car up their crooked ass. Its not like its a pricing error at the

Thanks, it’s a losing battle but hey maybe a couple people will get the idea!

Of course, he suddenly found out he could offer me the rate, but not before making some sexist and condescending comments to me about worrying I’d start crying in the office if he didn’t give it to me. Then he realized he pissed me off and commented about my lack of smile.

I applaud your efforts to continually try to drive this point home.

Yes, often dealership employees are sleazy dickfaces to everyone. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t increase their level of shitty behavior when dealing with women.

I’m very glad I did my research on the car I bought and that the dealership I went to happened to not suck. I’m a short woman, though I look intimidating to some because I’m loud, assertive, not hourglassy, and broad-shouldered, so I think that helped offset the XX chromosomes. I also tend to wear stuff that accents

Which is probably a fair criticism, all things considered. I just chose to use humor to respond. In reality, most of that post is not inaccurate. My wife hates car shopping and I love it, so I did the majority of the homework and most of the leg work on the vehicles. Ultimately when we buy cars (mine or hers) if she

he tried to pull a bait and switch and tell me I couldn’t get the Honda special financing offer because of the HUGE discount they were giving me on the car, and attempted to offer me a comically insulting rate.

I don’t think they were judging your grammar, but rather how you were making it clear that you were still in charge of the deal.

I mean, if their sales force can’t cut it, diversifying may not be the worst thing! Its probably easier than educating misogynistic jerks to be decent people

Guarantee some dealership owner is reading this like “THATS IT! WE’LL HIRE MORE GAY DUDES TO DEAL WITH THE WOMENFOLK!”

“Why are women still treated so badly in car buying, and what should we do about it? I just had a terrible experience buying my new minivan. The sales associates were generally fairly patronizing, which I can handle as long as I get the price I want, which I did.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the under $10k sedan market because my old Camry is at the point where my insurance company would probably total it on sight. Also, looking at used cars is one of my favorite ways to kill time. I can’t only read about war on Wikipedia, or I’ll get bored.

The Chevy dealer in town used to have a rather flamboyantly male gay sales man that all the women loved to deal with. When I was in leasing my Spark EV, he was dealing with one woman while two others were waiting for him. My sales guy said it was like that every day. I told him, maybe it was because he treated women

1. Fact that she still went through with the purchase neatly sums up the problem. Not blaming her, but rather highlighting the fact that stealerships know exactly how much bullshit they can get away with.
