We take our daily driver, which definitely doesn’t have a roll cage. All you need is essentially a car that’s securely in one piece. And a helmet— which you can borrow.

Totally. Or even SCCA events, which are in a lot more areas and let you really see what your car can do— but in a controlled environment without oncoming traffic or pedestrians… Closest track day to here is 4 hours, so we’ve never tried one of those though it would be fun! Closest SCCA event? Anywhere from 15 minutes

I always wonder if it’s a guy thing. We have a BRZ and a WRX, and my husband gets “challenged” by all sorts of idiots in both (he never bothers and just rolls his eyes). I’ve never had anyone do that when driving one of them.

It’s really depressingly sad that you’re right…

This is our baby, our ‘05 WRX. While I adore my car too, this one holds a special place. After 14 years it’s still my husband’s DD, and for the past 4 years it’s gotten to have extra fun some weekends with us playing in the mud and snow. It’s survived a giant maple landing on it and some random small limbs. Parts may

It’s all thanks to Viper we were able to enjoy Top Gear for so, so many years. Yeah, it’s “just a TV show,” but I hope he realized how much of an impact he had on so many people. He may not have blasted through the gates, backwards, in a flaming Swedish supercar, but I’m glad it at least sounded peaceful at the end.

Air support— drop ‘em out of the back of a C130 with parachutes (talk about glorious…)

Though I was waiting for one to show up at that last on ramp, but instead saw a likely shocked car driving through a suddenly appearing snow drift :P

My parents were way too broke for that. So until about age 7, we had the one hill in the neighborhood (our driveway), so it was headfirst down it on my skateboard (only broke my nose once, apparently flawlessly as a doc only noticed something and inquired years later). Then it was our nice wide dirt driveway and how

We would totally have a backup for our ‘05 if that existed. I’m also finding it harder to believe one that era isn’t modded in the least unless it was kept in a garage all the time or there were very wealthy owners who could take it to the dealer constantly. We haven’t specifically modded ours, but as stuff falls off

The roll by that went on and on and on towards the end was epic… 🤣

I still refer to it as “escaping.” We were in a small town for the first year there and I had never realized how naive I had been, foolishly thinking that racism wasn’t as common anymore… (and this was around 20 years ago). Columbus wasn’t near as creepy, but I’m so glad we got out of there.

My main reasoning to not speed is the idiots out there and making sure I have enough time to react to them swerving towards me, jumping out in front of me, slamming on their brakes for no reason… And then also the random animals who might jump out in front of you. Nothing like driving well under the speed limit on that

Not every union is bad— for example, my uncle’s old railroad union helped protect him through retirement as after UP bought SP, they tried to get any of the “old” guys fired for ridiculous reasons as they were making some good money with some awesome benefits. Without that union (and their lawyers), they would have

I found one in Oregon particularly funny as it was right on the beach, and pointing away from the ocean… Uh, yeah, thanks sign, I wouldn’t have known to not run *towards* all the incoming water… :P

That’s something I’ve always had a major issue with when leaving my car for repair… The contract you sign when dropping off your car almost always says that your insurance is responsible if anything happens to your car, no matter whose fault it is or what happens. I’ve had shop guys get really pissy at me for actually

I was just happy I never got stuck in the mudfest of a RallyX we had last year in our Daily Driver (on snows). :P Those on more proper tires weren’t near as covered in mud… There were sweepers full of water I just slid right through until I touched a smidge of actual mud and took off again. :D Our WRX certainly had

When driving in rural areas, seeing those totally straight loooong driveways always makes me comment on what a waste of an opportunity that was!

Property with a RallyX course would *so* be towards the top of the list… Plus one of those grater thingies to keep it from getting too rutted. And a water truck if the dirt is too dusty. Ooh… With that much, I could keep having new courses designed by some pretty talented folks…

Also realize that some people DO buy a house away from the highway, only to have one built a couple blocks away as the city “eminent domains” everything and sticks in a massive freeway… (I’m looking at you Phoenix… mostly as I’m actually aware of what they did, I’m sure many other cities do it too)
