I am not sure that Nyssa was in her right mind in that episode, having just had the space-flu. And they left her there in her underwear! 

AND had her father’s body stolen by the Master, too!  But she did stay on the leper station because she wanted to help, so at least it was her choice.

Some old school companions had tragic endings, too.  Adric died, Peri died (but then retroactively got better, if you call being married off to Brian Blessed as a lunatic alien barbarian warlord “better”), Tegan left after being utterly traumatized, Jamie and Zoe got mindwiped by the Time Lords, etc...
