But what makes Avatar so much different (or better) than a superhero "rehash," when it itself is basically an origin story? Say what you will about the MCU, it has a degree of narrative complexity that's a step up from Avatar.
I feel like there are more Academy Awards that are "Oscars" than are Oscars. Just because it's hypothetically the "Best" Adapted Screenplay doesn't mean it's a good Adapted Screenplay.

re: Best Animated, were there better films that you thought got snubbed? I've seen three of them (Inside Out, Anomalisa, Shaun the Sheep), and I thought they were all pretty good.
I liked it a lot more than Tarantino's other recent movies, but it mostly got the nominations it deserved (Cinematography, Score, Supporting Actress). It would have been nice for Jackson to get a nod for Best Actor though.
