I've definitely watched "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" more than Casablanca. If Casablanca had Flavo-Fives, maybe it'd be different.

I love the way she says "That's me" at the end of every episode when reading the credits. On the other hand, some of her impressions can verge on the mean-spirited. But on the whole, she's a good host and a good storyteller.
His setting of "Hymn to the Virgin" for two choirs is amazing. It's hard to believe that he wrote it when he was 17 and sick.
Britten's one of my favorite 20th century composers (it helps that I sang the Ceremony of Carols as a kid). Shoutout to Moonrise Kingdom for introducing his music to a brand new audience. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing AV Club coverage of classical music more often.
I still can't believe Rick Sloane used that song in the trailer for the sequel. It's both hilarious and lame.
Yeah, I read that Magic Voyage of Sinbad was a completely different story originally but was changed to Sinbad because that was what western audiences knew.
The one thing better than Kevin Murphy singing alone is Kevin Murphy singing in harmony with himself. See also: the madrigal for Quest of the Delta Knights.
My guess is all those Russo-Finnish movies (The Day the Earth Froze, Magical Voyage of Sinbad) are probably fine in their original versions, but were horribly mangled for US distribution. I've heard this is the case for some of the Japanese movies too, though I don't think anything can be done for Invasion of the…
It could be, but you might need to give it a few years. I don't think people are that patient these days.
Oy!
I lost it when the announcer used the promise of Miss Velma firing a live gun onstage as a selling point. A truly insane piece of "entertainment."
Squirm may be the most repugnant movie ever featured on MST3K. The only good thing I can say about it is that it lives up to its title.
It's funny how Rifftrax and Jones have started to intersect more - Rifftrax has done Fun in Balloonland and To Catch a Yeti, and I'm surprised Jones has never taken a look at Santa Claus and the Ice Cream Bunny.
I'd say that We Hate Movies is the Mike to HDTGM's Joel. WHM has genuine enthusiasm for the movies they watch, but they can have a tendency to be a little more viscious. I do agree that they do the best job (for the metaphor it helps that I'm a Mike fan).
Why do you think they riffed on the film based on his campaign slogan, "Gorgo"?
And out of the three he's been the most publicly supportive of the new MST3K, so there's no reason to jump down his throat.
To be fair, that was part of MST3K as well (Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, for example).
So that's where he's been for 25 years!
So does that make Jason the Ricky Gervais and Paul the Stephen Merchant of the podcast? That kind of works.
Don't forget, he also directed "Winter's Tale."
