Yeah, for me the movies are critical to whether I liked the episode or not. The movies during the Mike-era are pretty diverse and generally pretty ridiculous, but the Joel movies are all kind of dull and run together. It helps that Joel did lots of series, be it the Gamera movies, the Hercules movies, or the serial

His punishment should be to watch those Flash animations Jim Mallon made.

Yeah, in general I ignore the sketches. If there's a good one, it's a freebie. The best sketches are generally the music ones, especially when Kevin/Servo sings.

"The Film Crew" sketches were pretty bad, but I have a soft spot for their "Killers from Space" riff.

Agreed on both counts. I'm happy to accept on faith that The Longest Yard is better than the stuff he's made more recently.

I agree with this because even in the case of a remake of a good film that is itself good, it would always live in the shadow of the original and never become its own entity.

The sad thing is that Adam Sandler's remakes are probably on the higher quality end of his filmography.

Heck, he was flubbing lines during sketches in season 4. Besides, people do realize that these things will be written in advance and rehearsed, right?

"I'd rather have nothing than risk this being awful, which I am very convinced it will be."

That's what George Lucas has been trying to do.

Mr. Mom as Batman?

And it was that scene. I can't imagine any actor not coming across as silly given everything else being the same (the music, the spinning shot, etc.).

Josh probably would have gotten better, but trading him in for Kevin Murphy and TV's Frank was a massive upgrade.

It's also worth noting to the naysayers that it took at least 2 seasons for the original show to really find its voice (and for Mike fans, even longer than that). Hopefully it won't take quite as long, but people who love the show should give it some time.

Oh God! Oh man! Oh God! Oh man!

There is a precedent: I've never found the standup I've seen from Joel particularly funny either. I'd go further and say (as someone who loves the show) that lame schtick is a big part of MST3K, but somehow the riffing and the low-budget charm make it work.

I think it's a very British thing. Countless bad movies have been made watchable by British actors not feeling above appearing in them.

That's what makes him a pro.

Of all the podcast people, I think the only one really worthy of being involved is Paul F. Tompkins, who I think wouldn't be bad as Servo.
