I’ve been in a rental one recently and it was lovely. Interior materials were nice and it felt very substantial. Ford quality these days is pretty good, certainly miles better than GM. (I’ve been in a 2016 Mustang and a 2016 Impala, and the Impala’s interior felt like some kind of dollar-store knockoff by comparison.)

That’s a really good question! I always assumed it was because they had to keep feeding it regular logs in addition to Doc’s special logs, but now that I think about it, a great deal of the chase happened with nobody in the cab. My theory, then, would be that Doc simply didn’t know how to disconnect the tender.

A manual EV isn’t a problem. That’s easy to build. Most conversions have a manual.
