As someone who actually studies the economic effects of regulations at the microeconomic level, I can tell you that there certainly are examples of the EPA making rules that are “overly strict”. 1) That steering wheel is immensely stupid and was designed by someone who hasn’t operated a car. It might have some progressive steering where low speed, full-rotation maneuvers are handled so you don’t need to go 720 degrees, but come on.

The average age of a car on the road in the US is 13 years old. Even if 100% of new cars sold were EVs, it would take many years for them to take over the majority of cars on the road. As it is right now EVs are about 2% of new cars sold in the US. It’s going to be a LONG time before EVs take over.
