It will take well over 50 years before the you could expect “all” cars on the road to be EV. That gives adequate time to upgrade the infrastructure and increase capacity. It also gives time for several generations of battery, charging and electric motor technology to develop.
That only alleviates the requirements for crash testing with the NHTSA and emissions testing with the EPA.
