Books are mass produced and nothing is inherently special about them, pretty much since the invention of the printing press.
The geek “Oh my god how could you hurt a book?!” is performative nonsense.

I used to feel this way until working for Barnes and Noble for a number of years.
I work at a library and this game honestly sounds fantastic. Maybe this’ll help people get over the taboo about throwing out books. Just because something was published, doesn’t mean it’s worth saving forever.
Books are about the words of the author getting to your brain. People that get attached to the physical paper the words happen to be printer on are completely missing the point. Next people will say they miss writing physical checks too..
Gonna come back later for the comments that show the clear difference between people who love reading and people who love books.
Seems like a lot of people forget how hated Steam was for a good 3 or 4 years of its initial launch.
I certainly remember which is why I find the salt against Epic Store to be pretty silly.
this person doesnt have a tv and eats vegan and crossfits.
I’m really hoping my nephew likes reading or he and I will have nothing to talk about. Maybe one of your kids will discover Confederacy of Dunces and it will change his/her life.
You’re conflating how words are presented with what they convey, which is a huge mistake. Words being inside a text bubble doesn’t inherently devalue what they’re saying or what you can get out of it by reading it. In an MMO, most of what you’re seeing is either player communication or quest text, so narrative plays…
I’m of the opinion absence of choice is a HUGE factor in the turn off for reading. Forced reading lists are part of it. It’s one thing to show a child some books and say “these are considered great books - you’d like them” vs. “here’s some books you have to read, read them.”

^^^THIS. I am a librarian. I came here to say points 2, 3, 4, and 5. I feel like every time someone online posts these kinds of discussions everyone is reinventing the wheel, when my job is literally telling people these points over and over again. Can’t finish a classic? WHY are you reading a classic then??…
Amazon owns Audible, so they can shift around prices to encourage you to buy both.
I completed about 90 books last year (according to the Goodreads Challange) and have already completed 17 this year. How’d I do it?
All discord servers are ‘invite only.’ The question is the nature of obtaining those invites. Some of the servers I’m in are just me and a handful of friends - nobody gets those invites. Other servers I only have an invite for due to a Patreon or similar donation. Still other servers I simply clicked on an invite on a…
Her name is actually Brittany McNurlin. As a librarian (don’t get me wrong, this field is hella white and full of performative allies who’re okay with the coloreds talking about diversity and inclusion as long as they don’t have to feel uncomfortable), I want to point out that this chick is a law student, not a…
I believe Del The Funkee Homosapien said it best:
I most definitely do take into consideration the dollars per hour metric when considering buying or recommending a game because while it is not the end all be all metric of a games entertainment value, it is still one that factors a fair bit into if Its a good use of my limited resource of money.
