No big dude. No, I’m not interested at all in discussing why I do or don’t like the movie versus the book on the internet. Never intimated I was, just supplied an honest answer from King to an honest question on the internet. If I’d known you were already aware I’d not have sent it, but definitely not a big deal and I

You seemed unaware of the criticism of this film btw, which is why I posted this. I didn’t post my personal opinions mostly because I’m not the OP you responded to first, and second just why? But if you are interested in reading King’s takes on the film, and you can probably find someone to point by point debate you

I’m not sure, I’d never come across that one before honestly. I think it does have merit, but it’s not really my main complaint with the Kubrick version versus the book. So not sure I want to cosign it entirely, but I will say she was a much stronger character in the book IMO.

It’s not near his only or even greatest

Great write up. I can’t promise I’ll make it to the theater, but this is very much something I’ll be watching within the next year.

My only rub is how to get my kids to watch this with me, having not seen or cared about about Kubrik’s film or any of King’s books that I know of. Although they did like the newer IT.

Not so sure about that. Danny is angry in the first part of the novel, and he’s keeping his grip on it as tight as possible, but you see it. That anger is a good part of what drove his father toward snapping eventually. Although with Danny it never culminated in actual violent acts, you know he was never much further

I find I can only really enjoy the movie when I totally divorce it from King’s work, which I think is better. I view the movie as “loosely based on the novel by Stephen King” and it’s okay then. But the book pretty terrifying and even important read for me as a kid.

Per King, “Shelley Duvall as Wendy is really one of the most misogynistic characters ever put on film, she’s basically just there to scream and be stupid and that’s not the woman that I wrote about.”

“There’s no compassion for people digging their own graves, least of all those digging the graves of others (second hand smoking) and the of the world (pollution).”

Yes, yes there is. If you’re saving up your compassion for people who ‘deserve’ it, you’re likely doing it wrong. There is almost always time and space for

It is, it really is. I can’t hate on them for trying to make money to keep afloat, but the amount of autoplay video and ad popups is far beyond the pale.

I’m guessing that the TV series is what they mean. It’s technically based off of a comic, so comic-adjacent is kind of fitting.

If you do try this approach in say Pathfinder: Kingmaker, you’re in for a terrible playthrough even on normal settings and probably easier. Just be aware.

I think it’s fine to say you should be able to make a character in 5 minutes or less, but not that you should make a character in 5 minutes or less. That’s how you end up halfway through the game realizing you skimped on the two stats that are necessary, or that your halfling isn’t actually strong enough to wield a

There’s still a lot of them, that’s no lie. I live about 30 minutes from one that has never really changed much in the past 50 years. People around here just think that non-white folks don’t want to live there, pretty unaware that they have ways to make sure you know you can’t.

People are strange. Sometimes they look

Maybe someone’s still doing the work, or there’s an automated process out there doing it. I’d sure hate to see it disappear though.

Very often people are completely unaware that the towns exist, much less the how or why of it. It can really be an eye-opener for some of that ignorance.

It is sad. I used that site a fair bit in undergrad classes too, even updated him with info on a few of the towns in my area (NE Arkansas). I wish someone would pick it back up and run with it.

Memphis is about an hour from here, and pretty intrigued to see what’s up with this pizza. If I can find an excuse to go there, I’ll report back.

With an answer like that, they are definitely a keeper.

Hahah, we are all unusual around here. I think it’s an occupational requirement. Must have MLS or equivalent. Must also be weird as shit.

Academic, for about 12 years now? But I’ve got much love for our public, which I visit very often. You?

Well nice to meetcha!
