Maybe someone’s still doing the work, or there’s an automated process out there doing it. I’d sure hate to see it disappear though.

Very often people are completely unaware that the towns exist, much less the how or why of it. It can really be an eye-opener for some of that ignorance.

It is sad. I used that site a fair bit in undergrad classes too, even updated him with info on a few of the towns in my area (NE Arkansas). I wish someone would pick it back up and run with it.

Memphis is about an hour from here, and pretty intrigued to see what’s up with this pizza. If I can find an excuse to go there, I’ll report back.

With an answer like that, they are definitely a keeper.

Hahah, we are all unusual around here. I think it’s an occupational requirement. Must have MLS or equivalent. Must also be weird as shit.

Academic, for about 12 years now? But I’ve got much love for our public, which I visit very often. You?

Well nice to meetcha!

Cataloging/Discovery Services here.

Hey, me too man. Mind if I ask what field? Librarian here, my official title is Cataloging and Metadata Specialist, although that’s a bit funny because really I’m more specialized in Marc-21 and RDA, which are library centric metadata and standards. Still a neophyte with DublinCore, METS, XML Schemas and the like.

Nice

I don’t disagree with you at all, unless you’re using the words to appear superior or impress. I’d say that actually “dumbing down” language is rude as hell to both yourself and company in a lot of conversations. It assumes the recipients need dumbing down to, or are unable to keep up.

Know your audience, choose your

Hell, here’s a better base principle.

If you have to *try* to use it, you probably shouldn’t. Even if its the technical jargon of your field. Once you’re knee deep in it for long enough, you don’t have to try, that shit seeps our your pores.

Here’s my take: your vocabulary should often reflect the context and community you’re using it in. Talking among to a classroom full of first-graders, then you shouldn’t use these. Talking to colleagues, maybe some are okay depending on your field (curate, utilization are used daily in this field). Talking among

Rock Bottom Remainders, unless I miss my mark.

I have tried them both, and I prefer the spicy version quite a bit. It’s got the right amount of heat to make the sandwich pop. Mind you the classic is not bad at all, I just need a little kick to it.

I just had one about thirty minutes ago. It’s my fourth one in the last two weeks, so you might say I like em. This is the first time I’ve been though where Popeye’s drive through had traffic backed up into the street, and stayed that way the entire hour of my lunch break. Bear in mind this is a town of about 70k

Uplay password? I can’t even remember the account email I signed up with. I’ve got like the entire damned Might and Magic collection on it, and I’ve been wanting to try For Honor. I legitimately thought it was one of two accounts, and been waiting on that password reset for over an hour.

Sure. Whether this changes or not remains to be seen though. I suspect it’s a lot more stagnant than folks think, right or wrong.

I will say that I’ve seen this a lot more among some of my older family, who were generally subsistence farmers and animals were there to do specific jobs. They weren’t pets, the didn’t live in your house, and the ate slop or whatever they managed to hunt that wasn’t also a farm animal. I’ve got some pretty callous

Naw, that’s literally you. Come from poverty and still manage to care about both humans and dogs, and absolutely would not abuse one. Maybe it’s regional, or cultural, or -al I can’t think of off the top of my head. Not trying to make you feel bad or anything here, just don’t want to be lumped in that.

But it’s not a

Not gonna lie, Inheritance is pretty awful to start and doesn’t build speed well. I like it and will reread it probably next year, but it’s an awful entry point to Jemisin’s work. Don’t let it stop you though, here Dreamblood Duology is my favorite with Broken Earth coming in a close second.

I know folks like that, especially co-workers. I’m just too big of an addict to ever stick to that.

Plus, if you read the series early on and it takes 10 years to finish being written, it’s a damned good excuse to read the entire thing again from the start.
