Well I park my Porsche 914 and my Spitfire on the street I live on, and the TR4 is in the carport...

And some Aston DB4.

Little bit of BMW 507 and Triumph GT6. Kind of neat.

A well cared for Mondial is a joy to drive. Use it often and it will be happy. Use it rarely and pay for it dearly. To understand these, you have to take into account what the intended purpose of the car was. As a GT, it is very good. As a sports car it is ok. I’d buy it in a second f I had the space. But I also own a

Great cars. I had one 20 years ago. I like the looks, the interiors are well equipped and comfortable. Lots of parts from the Triumph TR3 under the skin. Incredible car for a roadtrip. Fast, easily keeps up with modern traffic, and a joy on roads like from Exit 30 on the Northway to Lake Placid. Wish I had the space,

If you’re in TX check with the DMV first if these are legal. They’ve begun revoking titles unless a car is a continuation model kit car. Dune buggies, kit cars, etc are all being effected.

Depends on what market you talk about. MG had nowhere near the racing success in the States Triumph did, and saying MG had a stronger rep in the sports car market is a stretch.

Actually, Triumph made more cars in the spirit of the Acclaim than sporty cars in their history. It was known as a boring, stodgy car company, Standard Triumph in the postwar years until the TR series. In the states most remember the sports cars, but they sold lots of Heralds and Vitesses here as well.

Hamilton Pool requires a reservation and it is booked to capacity weeks in advance. Plan well ahead. Jester King is nice but having to stand on line for every beer eats up most of the time spent there.

First, bring more money than you think you need as Austin has gotten very pricey. Second, plan doing much less due to traffic, which is bad most of the day, not just rush hour. There aren’t any up and coming areas, it’s basically all gentrified now.

Nissan kind of stretched the claim of F1 level power. Qualy engines were 1000-1300hp at that time, and race tune was 800-1000. Non turbo were by then over 500.

I’d just find replacement panels off scrapped cars. Then drive it until it dies, which if you do regular things like oil changes and chassis lubes will be a long time. I’ve driven a Spitfire 1500 104,000 miles since March 2010. In Austin, TX heat and traffic. Have fun!

Going from Eastern OH back to Indy on a 9 degree morning after an ice storm. Got my Triumph Spitfire started, warmed, left my friend’s house. I’d flick at the top to pop ice off it as I was driving. Whacked at the rear window, it tore, and I had supercharged ice cold draft on my back for several hours. Or driving

Miata seats are a huge fail. The original seats are much more comfortable and just as supportive for hard driving. It’s a decent price but you can get a much better one for a few K more.

Buy it. I have a 68 CL350, a CB350, a CB250, and a CB100. You’ll love them.

After driving my Spitfire as my only car for a bit over 6 years and 100,000 miles (3/2010-12/2016) I laugh at the folks claiming reliability woes, etc. Also, I live in Austin, TX, so no AC, and some of the worst traffic and drivers in the country. Add autocrossing the hell out of my car and I wonder why I have so few

Guess I am one x 13 at this point in my life. But heck, 100,000 miles in a Spitfire in under 7 years does kind of throw the unreliability out the window imo.

My 1500 has 64hp at the wheels. But 111lb ft of torque at 2250 rpm, never going below 101 until 5500rpm. Also won it’s class at VTR Nationals by over 4 secs, and was 6th overall.

I drove my Spitfire from March 2010 to January 2017 and covered over 100,000 miles in that time. Even doing dozens of autocrosses, one time doing one Fri in OK, then the following Sunday in San Antonio. 2 autocrosses, 3 days, 900 miles. So I laugh about Snipes at reliability.

Check out my column which has many adventures in my Spitfire. 100,000 miles in just over 6 years. And I live in Austin, TX so heat is a bit of an issue. But I’ve won autocrossing titles in it, and it was my only car most of the last 7 years. I can’t wait to finish my rebuild on it.
