Train wreck.
Train wreck.
I thought I read something similar about this along the same lines: that women might take unnecessarily drastic action upon learning they had this gene. I'll have to poke around to see where I saw that.
That's not what I was talking about.
Bah, my mythology is rusty.
Wait, I thought they said over-testing was a bad thing...
Oh god, where can I find the nearest 12-step program?!
Entirely possible; I do have quite the death glare.
Well the definition of 'addicted' is a bit tricky. Am I addicted to my blood pressure medicine because I refuse to go without it and am scared of what would happen should I stop taking it?
That's really unfortunate. I was finally diagnosed at the age of 15 (it sounds odd to say 'finally' in such a context, but I started having symptoms when I was five) after having to figure out on my own what was wrong with me so I could insist on someone doing something FFS. I was given the appropriate treatment, but…
Classist, perhaps, but I'm not sure about calling that ableist.
*grown a second head. I do not, in fact, already have two heads. As I typed this I was debating saying 'second head' versus 'third eye' and I guess my wires got crossed.
I'm not a drug addict, but as someone with a(n invisible) disability, I'm offended by the idea that the mere use of such a term could be deemed ableism. I wish I could articulate why.
Really? If you're addicted to drugs that don't serve a specific medical purpose (ie treat some diagnosed condition), you are, by definition, a drug addict. If I had never gotten help for my many mental health issues, I likely would have gone down such a path, but it wouldn't mean 'drug addict' wasn't an applicable…
Thank you. I was about to comment questioning that particular bit.
I once tried to explain to a friend how I - and many, many other women - find the idea of two men together a turn-on. You would have thought I had grown a third head for the way she looked at me! I said, well, you accept that (straight) men are turned on by the thought of two women together, right? It's the same…
I don't think that's really a fair comparison here.
Oh my gawd such cuteness I cannot even etc etc
???
I agree, I'm just wary of anything that even resembles letting people off the hook because something is somewhat common in society.
Ah, okay, I thought I had forgotten some key moment!
