So no Oscar thread?
Seriously, one interview where those guys barely spoke English should have exposed it.
The only man to be killed on screen by a Terminator, an Alien, a Predator AND an Avenger.
Well, at least the Oscars have a good excuse leaving someone out of the "In Memoriam" reel.
I loved the "trivia track" they played explaining the history of stuff. Always loved that show and how it brought this stuff in a realistic way (Cleopatra being much younger and not as beautiful for example).
I love commentary tracks, great stuff. I love Ridley Scott's, so in depth, some gruff stuff but still great listening to. His one on the Gladiator special edition with him and Crowe is terrific, they basically admit they hated each other on set but that helped make it a better movie.
Almost a shame Murder goes on hiatus before ABC can do the "Academy Award winner Viola Davis' promo lines.
In all her two-time Tony-winning singing/dancing/mugging glory.
I meant in the way that you had the leading character of a major studio blockbuster and he was putting on a performance that was so unlike "action stars" of the time.
The book details that, Katezenberg really thought this was going to be huge, poured a lot of energy into it. And when it bombed, he was basically never the same.
Yeah we've become so used to Depp's act but in 2003, it was just so original and out there, you had to watch and the rest of the film around him was great too.
It really was Katzenberg trying to show up Eisner. Which is ironic as the awesome documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty makes clear Katzenberg was never the champion of the animation division. He wanted to cut songs from Little Mermaid and everyone on Lion King talks of how Katzenberg basically never had faith in the…
I loved how he lectures them on how "they didn't dress like in the movies," insists on authentic outfits and everyone in Camelot gives him the looks of "the HELL are you wearing?!"
BTW, took a chance on the Broadway musical filmed and it's actually good replicating the feel and such. Plus, Sutton Foster as Fiona is awesome.
The great book The Men Who Would Be King talks the history of DreamWorks and makes the great case that a reason it fell apart in the end was Katzenberg going way too far trying to show up Disney in animation. He was the one backing flops like Road to El Dorado and Sinbad, both of which he really thought were going to…
So much to love here…
Best series episode ever? It's a serious contender.
Was saying "at the time," who knew Hudson would then sink into rom-com hell?
Do remember when Martin Landau won Supporting Actor in 1995, you can see Samuel L. Jackson clearly hissing "SHIT!"
