I do think they thought it might save money, even if the main reason for it was preserving the existing contractors and their jobs. They could have just handed those contractors bids to develop a clean-sheet rocket and capsule, and it probably would have gone smoother and faster while keeping the money with them - but

There is also the issue around contractors knowing they will be paid regardless. They can under budget, and have cost overruns as well knowing that government contracts rarely get shifted around and it is a great source of income that they can jack up prices on to increase profitability.

I’m almost surprised the WGA hasn’t demanded everyone cancel their Netflix and Hulu subscriptions if this is what they consider a betrayal. I do think they need to be paid more, but some expectations need to realistic.

AI-written scripts punched up by executives is what will come from this and it will be as awful as it sounds.

They were talking about how government projects so often go vastly over budget on NPR a few weeks ago and the guy they had on was saying contractors often throw out low bids knowing they will go over budget because if they bid up front what it would really cost, they’d never get the bid to begin with. It’s kinda dumb,

The two biggest reality shows - American Idol and Survivor - premiered 5 and 7 years before the last writer strike. MTV started The Real World in 1992. Hollywood didn’t need to lose their writers to figure out that cheap reality TV that required little staff and no high paid stars could fill time on the schedule and

Well I’m convinced. I’m not voting for Obama for president ever again.

How can promoting something that’s already done be affecting writers? As a writer, this is just silly.

Don’t worry, the SAG-AFTRA strike is next. Then the writers won’t work even if they resolve their own strike, right?

Phooey. They knew it was going to cost vastly more. The only reason NASA used this ridiculous design and low-balled the price was to get it approved by those congressional representatives with a vested interest in seeing the Shuttle manufacturing jobs stay in place.

This is incredibly dumb. The movie was already out, it’s not crossing the picket line even a bit and really makes them look whiny.

many still view the move as in poor taste.

This is the first I’ve heard that non-writers are not even supposed to *promote* their work during the WGA strike. Aren’t actors and directors still doing interviews and photoshoots and such?

No one will every pass their purity tests....

Not suprised.

striking writers have accused Barack Obama of crossing the picket line.

Great, just the fodder Jim Jordan needs to open investigations on Michelle.

100% how I say it in my head.

Josh, they’re called fillers, not Botox. Get it right. Also you were trying use AI to look more “masculine” but you ended up looking like the weirdo on the playground who sniffs the benches at the end of a hot day.

I don’t know how her last name is supposed to be pronounced, but can we all agree now and forever to say it like “Pshaw!”?
