Looking forward to his next animated project, starring Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt!

This is the absolute RIGHT take on a very WRONG take ... I, too, was lucky enough to see the Stripes live back in the day. She remained stock still steady throughout the show, while he was a tornado whirling between instruments all over the stage. She provided balance for his chaos.

Totally agree with this. I saw them in 2001 and it was just unreal. Just the wall of sound, and she was absolutely the grounding wall from which he was leaping all the time.

it has a certain rhythm.

As much as I love the Stripes’ albums, seeing them live was the real thing. On the recordings, Meg’s style matches what Jack was doing. They were shooting for vibe, not perfection. Jack’s playing is just as messy on guitar as her was on drums — it’s just that people are more forgiving of that kind of blurry style for

Saying she’s bad is totally missing the point. This is like saying, “God, imagine how much better The White Stripes would have been with a bassist, second guitar player, and a keyboard player.” Imagine how much worse White Stripes would be if some attention-seeking drummer cleared out all the space with drum fills.

I am in agreement with Stephen King’s theory, “If someone is paying you to do what you do, you’re good enough.”

I don’t know if Meg White was a good drummer or not but I do know that Jack White’s solo stuff and side projects aren’t as popular as The White Stripes. I know I’d rather listen to Icky Thump than Broken Boy Soldiers any day of the week.

The dad from Freaks and Geeks said it best:

People have been bagging on Meg White’s drumming for years (I hold no opinion because I don’t know shit about drumming). What a dumb thing to bring up in 20-fucking-23.

Maybe it came up now because of the Elephant reissue but it’s the sort of thing people said when the album was released the first time around too, and it was just as backwards then.

Questioning anyone’s ability in the arts is just a straight-up dick move.

Questioning her ability is one thing, since you can’t really prove it one way or another, but to say that the band would have been more successful without her requires ignoring the fact that all of his projects since then have been a lot less successful than The White Stripes. (Obviously this could also be because of

meg white is a terrible drummer’ is the kind of hilariously backwards opinion you usually overhear a teenager saying in line at starbucks

The South Park guys also wrote the era’s most sympathetic portrayal of Britney Spears in a prescient and disturbing episode around this same time. It’s fine to culturally reappraise someone down the line, but not everyone can be painted with the same brush. Two things are true about Hilton: she was unfairly demonized

Still doesn’t make it ok that she didn’t consent to a sex tape that was widely distributed.

“I carefully and methodically cultivated a persona as a vapid child of privilege, and I am outraged that people view me as a vapid child of privilege!”

This whole trend recently of “Hate the game, not the player” is understandable - who doesn’t love a redemption arc, after all? - and to be fair there are no winners on any side in the kind of vapid, self-aggrandizing, vicious world in which the Paris Hiltons, Courtney Stoddens, and, indeed, Donald Trumps of this Earth

In a safe space where he wouldn't be condemned for saying so, this guy would probably rail against Lincoln for robbing his ancestors of their slaves.
