Clayne Crawford really is underrated as an actor. It was regrettable that, for the most part, we were only able to see him in guest or recurring roles on TV before "Rectify." But in some ways, it's actually fortunate that that was the case since his great work here has been happily surprising. Seeing him perform in

No, but strangely enough it's rumored that he's going to be cast as the Saudi villain in next season's "Homeland." Fingers crossed for a Danes-Tennant hookup!

A movie with Emma Stone is certainly going to get more exposure. But I still think the worst "whitewashing" of the past year or two has been the casting of Adam Rayner in the FX show "Tyrant." A show set in the Middle East amongst a royal family, and the lead character looks about as Arab as David Tennant. Not only

You're right, I forgot how multifaceted and well-structured a show like "The Newsroom" is. Name another TV series that's been as good. I'll bet you can't.

Emma's metal was tested, and by gosh she prevailed.

I think I came to that conclusion after the 50th person said "what, no Francis Ford Coppola?!"

It certainly is shit-filled, that's for sure.

Hey, I'm not in charge of this whole thing! You can do whatever you want. I'm just saying, it's a veritable shitstorm over there: http://www.avclub.com/artic…. If you'd like to wade into those brown and smelly waters, be my guest.

I do love me some Jeff Nichols but I think he would need to be in the game a little longer to qualify. Give him another few years. ;-)

Oh boy, sarcasm aside you'd have a ball with that on the "greatest American directors A to Z" article they posted last night. The battle between the Woody Allen defenders versus the haters is still raging on, as expected.

Maybe it's just the title, but this article cries out for a good Eddie Cantor-style Vaudeville song.

Carrie Coon definitely should have been nominated. And the fact that Walton Goggins didn't get an Emmy during "Justified's" tenure, let alone get nominated more than once, is a fucking travesty.

Well these nominations are bullshit and/or a shitshow (use whichever excrement-related term you'd like). But Ben Mendelsohn getting nominated does put a smile on my face. Say what you want about "Bloodline" as a series, but he gave one of the best performances of the year.

I am horrified that Matthew Rhys wasn't nominated. Except for Bob Odenkirk and maybe Jon Hamm, there is no other actor on television who gave as great a performance as he did this year.

*sees no Timothy Olyphant nomination*

Instead of a freeze ray, his dad's gun shoots scorn and guilt. Captain Cold's weapon is actually based on that technology. He was able to get those blueprints…but not his father's love.

My pappy was a cold man. Dug coal in the holler by day, made freeze ray guns by night. We never talked much.

And also directing a damn good TV show.

I do love these all-encompassing film articles that show up around 2:00 A.M. Eastern time and engender huge debate amongst the commentariat. Pff whatever, I can sleep some other time.

To paraphrase Michael Shannon in Take Shelter: "THERE IS A SHITSTORM COMING! LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN! AND NOT A ONE OF YOU IS PREPARED FOR IT!"
