Those people aren’t going to consider updating them anyways, so something like this isn’t even directed towards them. It’s for people who browse Kotaku and who are tech savvy enough that they consider the steps people are going to have to go through to use their new system.

For PS4 you can update the system software via the Safe Mode menu. I assume that doesn’t require an account, but if it does then login with another account (or create one) and then once it’s updated just initialize the console and it will act like a new system (except with the most recent update).
