Everyone on the collectors forums went crazy when this was announced. I’m cautiously optimistic myself; I hope GameStop can bring some stability to a market that has seen games skyrocket in price over the past six months.

Solid reporting, Jason. You're a Kotaku treasure.
I'm so excited that a new generation will get to experience suikoden 2. I played it in the fall of 99 (thanks, money for catholic confirmation!) and instantly fell in love with it. To this day it is one of my most cherished possessions.
I don't understand why anyone would yell. This is Black Friday. You guys can't help it if dozens, if not hundreds, of other people are looking for the same deal that Mr. Complainer is.
I bought the 16 pack of Black Amazon Basics about a year or so ago. Good value, and they have a similar life as Eneloop, but their discharge rate is far faster. A bit of an annoyance especially coming from Eneloop country, but they give you so many that I'm never without a pair without at least a 75% charge.

I was pretty sold on this until I found out none of the games I actually want to play are compatible. Oh well.
Let's see here....
Heck, I'm not even an early adopter. I got an XL for christmas 2012 and I still feel like I'm getting burned. Ultimately, I'm gonna wait on buying the New XL; I didn't buy the DSi and don't feel like I missed out on much there (except maybe Shantae).
I agree with this statement in so many ways. I know Nintendo loves to use cheap, somewhat outdated technology in their products, but it seems they've been going a little too cheap lately, and it always seems to cost them a few years down the road.
I still have to wait for the Wii U release, unfortunately :( ...Unless the PS3/PS4 release is cross buy, that is.
I was on the fence about picking one of these up, but I think I just got pushed over onto the "no thanks" side. Apparently none of the games I want to play are supported, and while it'd be cool to play PSP games on a TV (Legend of Heroes: TiiS comes to mind), that's not worth $100 to me.
Unfortunately, Bravely Default was one of the more generic RPGs I've played in recent memory. The battle system was good, and the music was par, but the story and characters were unremarkable, and the last leg of the game was absolutely one of the worst ideas I've ever seen in an RPG.
I dunno... am I the only one who feels like this game has been in the oven for way too long? FF XIII is the perfect example of what can happen when games spend too long in development.
SD3 was very good, but I'd still rank it after Terranigma, Tales of Phantasia, and Star Ocean. Live and Live and Rudro No Hihou fit somewhere in there too.
Got mine earlier. It's fun but I wish there were more characters.
Terranigma: The best SNES game that never made it (officially) to US shores.
To be fair, the Wii U does has a high attach rate, and its sellthrough number is closer to 7 million at this point. That figure will probably increase nicely when Smash comes out.
Not as good as on a CRT TV. The NES, SNES, and 64 all put out what is basically 240p, which an HDTV just doesn't understand. The resulting image is kinda blurry. There are upscalers to fix this, but the best one (framemeister) is about the cost of a PS4.
I feel like this article should mention that the FrameMeister costs between $350-400 right out of the gate. The technology is out there, but it's damn expensive. Personally, I'd love a FrameMeister, but I'm quite happy with my SNES connected to a 27" CRT via S-Video.
