You're right. It's not wrong. But to me, it's like calling ostrichs and penguins birds. Yes, you'd be correct, but the descriptor "bird" does neither justice. It's much easier referring to them simply as ostrich and penguin.

@atomrocker The best way to describe why she would freak out is like when someone mixes up Star Wars and Star Trek.
Super cute, but it goes without saying that these costumes are really only useable for fun photo ops. Most tortoise/turtle owners know just how quickly these things would get mangled/pooped on if you left them on for more than 10 minutes.
@Prof. Bananas Goldsteinberg Worst plot twist ever. Totally ruined SO3 for me. The only way I got through TLH was to delude myself into believing SO3 wasn't canon.
I would say that Pandora's Tower is traditional in many gameplay aspects, and doesn't share much in common with Nier in regard to experimental concepts. Though they may have some similarities, my gut is telling me to lean away from any assertion that they're comparable beyond skin-deep comparisons.
I understand, and even agree with most of your statements, but there is an unfortunate divide between the idealisms of our dream jRPG (we all have one) and the reality of an indie developer making a (now) niche game. Muteki is full of smart people, but they're not Squaresoft during the golden age of SNES jRPGs. They…
Pandora's Tower is worth playing, and as time rages by I find myself looking on it more fondly than The Last Story (though Xenoblade is still my fav of the trio). As Jason said, the controls are clunky, but the combat is fun, and I never had a major problem with the time limit. It's a little daunting at first, but…
I played through the IOS version (which is mostly the same. This version has updated graphics and a new menu system, as well as a new dungeon) in its entirely about a year ago, and I think it was a great purchase at $.99 on sale, I believe. $9.99 is a little harder to swallow, but I've paid more for less.
This is the best gaming news I've heard in weeks. The Drakengard/Nier universe is criminally under-appreciated, so knowing that Cavia is still out there, even if under a different masthead, makes me very, very happy (and, eventually, so very very sad).
I saw a post on Joystiq last week that Persona 2 got re-rated through the ESRB, and I immediately listed my PS1 copy on eBay. Sold just in time, I suppose.
It may not rank along with these games, but I think Arc Rise Fantasia deserves a mention. It's a real shame the voice acting was so terrible. Had a team like XSEED tackled it, I have no doubt it would be a fine example of modern JRPG greatness.
Here here. Nier is one of the most interesting JRPG of this gen and it never gets any attention (and yeah, it's more action/adventure, but if Jason can get away with calling Valkyria Chronicles a JRPG, so can I). It has its flaws, to be sure, but its music was superb, its plot was the right kind of crazy (some fine…
I couldn't have written this any better. Personally, I would love the Vita to thrive. Despite owning almost every Nintendo Portable, I still preferred playing on my PSP over my DS. Don't get me wrong, I still love my DS, I just never really cared for the dual screens.
I understand and agree with your sentiments, but your choice of games "from the 90s that we missed out on" is a little odd considering every single one of those games has a fine fan-translation over at rhdn or was eventually released in English. Terranigma didn't even need a translation; the PAL version is perfectly…
I've had the same 60GB Xbox 360 since 2008. It's a Falcon model, I think? I had the previous years model, a zephyr, but I sold that in a botched act of kindness for my brother gone awry.
I think trying to mash all gamers into two or four molds is painfully absurd. The Myers-Brigg test barely accomplishes it with 16.
Dragon Fantasy is one of the better JRPG-styled games for iOS. I've been looking forward to this for a while.
This. The Last Story is good, but Xenoblade is better. Simple as that.
Maybe we just appreciate different types of games, but I can tell you that The Last Story is only good at best. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun playing it, but while Xenoblade was doing a lot of great things for jRPGs, The Last Story felt like a standard PS2-era action/rpg.
Big Huge Games laid off all QA staff and temp jobs this past friday. So not great either.
