Yes, the general pattern would definitely be similar, but much less extreme. With housing value there is a multiplier effect. Denser areas have a higher number of homes and higher home prices.
Market forces are not the only issue here. Big cities like NYC and SF use zoning to restrict the housing supply, which drives prices up.
