I love the unbridled optimism of this sentence, i.e. that there might actually be people outside the US who follow the Nats.

I love baseball, and this is cool an’ all, but let’s try not to pretend that the World Series is watched by more than three men and a dog outside of the Americas. I’d prefer it if we left the “the world watches American sports as well as soccer, doncha know!” myth-making to the NFL.

At the risk of sounding like that guy, it’s not actually unique to soccer - in Europe, a lot of sports have a fairly similar set-up, including rugby, basketball, ice hockey and even more off-the-beaten-track stuff like handball.
