I helped a friend install test pipes on an F430 that already had tubular headers and a Capristo remote-controlled valved muffler. It was the most obnoxious thing I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t shut it off soon enough the first time I started it in my garage.

Maybe not. High quality shocks could be better in all respects than factory stuff. Lower stiction could give a more compliant ride over small bumps while more damping gives better body control over bigger ones.

When I raced motorcycles in the early 90s, I observed that any newbie (there was no ‘track days’ in my area then - you either raced, or you didn’t) who showed up on the track with a new 750 never really got fast. 600? Maybe. The fastest guys started on slow bikes in slow classes.  They also raced them in the faster

That stinks.  FWIW, some emissions devices have to be warranted to 8yr/80k. The cat, ECU, and OBD equipment (which is probably the ECU in most cars). https://www.epa.gov/transportation-air-pollution-and-climate-change/frequent-questions-related-transportation-air

Yes, specifically seal failures.  I should have been more precise.

I pro mechanic told me he’s had a few water pump failures after using a vacuum filler.

Excellent observation. I once had an argument with a guy who was doing track events with his motorcycle and and had done one in a car. Car racing was “so much easier”. Well, no. Going pretty fast on track in a car is quite a bit easier but it’s equally easier for everyone.

A friend of mine banana-d a 5.0 LX around a telephone pole in high school. Random chance had the passenger seat empty and nobody dead.

My uncle made that exact point about FL rain to me recently. He grew up in Central FL in the 60s and said that daily, refreshing showers were the norm.

A multimeter tests with a tiny bit of current. A damaged cable becomes a resistive load with 300A (or whatever) across it.

After the first one, I guess it was the insurance company buying them.  At least until renewal time.

Exactly.  It’s remarkably simple.

Oh man, that would be awesome!

A friend’s neighbor’s teenage friend drives a Dodge Challenger Demon when he’s not driving his dad’s F12 Superfast. The F12 was rear ended on the way to the prom a couple months ago. Before the F12, he was borrowing a C7 Z06.

I asked a service writer at Classic Coach in Elizabeth, NJ about that generation of Maser while we sipped espressos (as you do at the Ferrari shop). “The ones with a manual transmissions are OK but don’t touch a Cambiocorsa”.

You’re not going to generate many clicks with that thorough thought process!

You’re allowed to say “USAA”. :)

Random fact: Pontiac sold an AWD version of the 6000 in ‘88 and ‘89. Wikipedia just told me they sold a diesel version from ‘82 to ‘85 as well.

Depreciation AND maintenance!  Good luck with that.

This is good Kinja. I had no idea and sure explains a lot. The average COMPACT car buyer is 45!
