You’re underestimating the power requirements to move a car. The tiny BMW i3 range extender package (34hp, 650cc, 2 gallon tank, generator) adds 265lbs to the car. 34hp is 25kW. Normal home-owner generators have a much worse power/weight ratio. My 5500w Generac is 180lbs. You’d be lucky to go 25mph on a flat road...

That reminds me of something I recall during the Mark McGuire steroid ‘scandal’ (for lack of a better word). One of his coaches defended him with “Mark’s not using anything, he’s just hitting the gym harder/more often than everyone else.” Which is exactly what steroids let you do...

I could see how the power delivery would be irritating - there isn’t any! 184hp in a 3750ish lb vehicle.

I was specifically referring to the Bangle 7s, not BMW leasing in general.

Honestly, I prefer your pictures.

Thanks for all the underside detail shots! That shows some commitment.

Thanks to aggressive leasing if my recollection is correct.

To maximize range, coast as much as possible, brake (even if it’s regen) as little as possible. Regen only captures some percentage of the energy. Coasting transfers all the energy into motion.

You’re right. I should have said ‘top buffer’.

There was no trick to learn. Having an unused buffer is SOP in the EV world but Tesla, at least with the Model S, allows a true 100% (4.2v/cell) charge. It’s a fairly common topic of discussion in the Tesla forums.

I am that guy in my neighborhood and I DO make a real effort to keep a lid on it.

I’m a Zwift nut but the Peleton seems to appeal to a different community. Zwifters are mostly actual cyclists and like the simulation of cycling. The Peleton owners I know are largely people who used to go to Spin class and may not even own a bike.

That must have been a hell of a camper! 185s on Controller are $139-260k.

This:

A SportWagen can almost become an AWD GTI wagon by swapping in the turbo from it (they’re externally identical) and tuning to suit. There are still a handful of unsold ones out there.  The warranty may not be quite as comprehensive after though....

Thanks for the laugh. You seem nice.

They do (they have to - or fire) but maintaining full charge is still bad for LiIon batteries over time.

Obnoxious and wrong. Well played. Constant 100% charge (4.2v) absolutely hurts battery life.

Nice. I’ve never actually had a bad experience. The MINI dealer didn’t even have an F&I guy and we worked out a fair price in minutes. I’ve leased a VW and bought one and the F&I experience was just “check here to decline all this stuff”.

Bingo. “What is the number of monies that will permit me to get that?” With a used car, I save them the trouble and just ask what the fees are so I know what I’m really offering. It’s not worth grinding it out over every line item.
