The fact that Randy Jackson used to be Journey's bassist is one of my favourite pieces of trivia.

Well, presumably some people voted for Rodrigo Duterte.
That reminds me of a minor kerfuffle that happened in games discussion circles a few years ago (a kerfuffle so minor that my Google-fu isn't sufficient to dig it up) when a critic suggested that games would always fail to convey emotional nuance because computers are digital - they operate in binary - whereas human…
Don't feel guilty! It actually worked out really well today, because I was busy and didn't have time to write a thoughtful prompt anyway. (Moving across the country is time-consuming.)
You mean you don't consider Gone Home part of a balanced breakfast?
A chicken dinner isn't a game either. I'm not sure Tacoma and Gone Home are games, but I'd rather call them games than put them in the same category as chicken dinners.
Hey Gameologerinos! Life Is Strange is our current Revue Club game. I should put up nominations for the next discussion game this weekend. If I don't, someone please remind me.
I agree, but I should make clear that I don't think that means those kinds of experiences shouldn't be discussed alongside video games.
Why is this guy refrigerating tomatoes?
Even supposed progressives are using the word in that manner now. Being triggered is an actual thing, but the term has been diluted beyond all meaning.
I haven't played it yet; it's on my Steam wishlist.
At this point, I think "walking simulator" is almost a semi-ironic term that has been reappropriated by fans of the genre. But amusingly, the emphasis on "walking" has its pitfalls; I completely forgot to mention Abzû in my previous comment.
A few years ago we used to just call them all "art games." Fun times.
For me, the reason TBG doesn't totally work is because it has the wrong target. The obsessive fan is a much smaller danger to video games than the self-indulgent critic; the latter actually has a soapbox from which to broadcast their eisegesis.
I hated 30FoL. Its conceit got in the way of its ability to tell a story.
I guess Tetris isn't a video game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm so glad to hear this is good. The "walking simulator" genre has had its ups (e.g. The Stanley Parable, Firewatch, Red Amazon, and Gone Home), downs (e.g. Thirty Flights of Loving, the static speaks my name, and Sunset), and everything in between (e.g. The Beginner's Guide, Dr. Langeskov, Little Party, and Virginia)…
Hey Gameologerinos! If you're interested in chatting about video games with fellow Gameological commenters, our semi-official Steam group runs a book club for video games called the Revue Club. Currently, we're discussing Life Is Strange at this link. Please join us!
I've never been to one of these restaurants, but I'm definitely curious.
The A.V. Club
I was ready to be snarky but…
